10 MCU Movies Or Shows Star-Lord Could Return In
With Chris Pratt confirmed to return as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans are speculating where he might show up next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While Star-Lord is no longer the leader of the Guardians, he is still a Guardian and could make a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 if Marvel Studios decides to make it. Alternatively, a potential Nova movie would be perfect for a Star-Lord appearance as Richard Rider is one of Star-Lord’s best friends and Sam Alexander could be a great cosmic hero whom Star-Lord could mentor.
Marvel Studios could also give Star-Lord his own solo movie, exploring what’s next for Quill now that he’s reconciling with his past on Earth. A brief appearance from Star-Lord in The Marvels would also fit right in, as the heroes continually swap places with each other each time one of them uses their powers. In Deadpool 3, another upcoming MCU project with possible multiversal ramifications, Star-Lord could have great comedic chemistry with Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson.
As Marvel’s First Family, The Fantastic Four’s debut in the MCU could lead to a possible run-in with Star-Lord as he is a galactic adventurer himself. A reunion between the MCU’s two most notable Peters in Spider-Man 4 could be interesting, as both Spider-Man and Star-Lord are experiencing a major shift in their typical status quo and are now largely on their own.
The next big MCU crossover movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, could have all hands on deck, including Star-Lord, who will likely already be on Earth, ready to assist Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when the time comes. Similarly, in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, a multiversal threat will likely require even more heroes such as Star-Lord to assemble, including variants from other timelines and dimensions.
Although its development has yet to be officially confirmed, the MCU is rumored to be working on a World War Hulk movie where the cosmic potential could be perfect for Star-Lord, who could perhaps fulfill a co-starring role, mirroring the Hulk’s role alongside the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok. Wherever Star-Lord appears next in the MCU, fans will undoubtedly be excited to see the Legendary Star-Lord return.
Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has confirmed that Chris Pratt will be returning as The Legendary Star-Lordthe speculation can begin as to where in the MCU he might show up next. Choosing to return to Earth, Peter Quill’s Star-Lord is no longer the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Instead, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) now fulfills that role as he and Groot (Vin Diesel) are joined by a brand-new roster of heroes. As such, Star-Lord’s return in the MCU could look very different compared to his past appearances alongside the Guardians.
Coming to terms with the loss of his version of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Star-Lord finally decides to stop running and return home. In the final scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3Quill finally reunites with his grandfather decades after he was taken from Earth by Yondu Udonta and the Ravagers. As the final post-credits scene sees the two of them eating breakfast together, a tagline appears confirming that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”. Keeping that in mind, here are 10 MCU movies that Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord could appear in next.
10 Guardians of the Galaxy 4
If Marvel Studios ends up making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 starring Rocket and Groot’s new team, it would undoubtedly be from another director. After all, James Gunn is now one of the new heads of DC Studios, though he has given his blessing for someone else to take the reins. Regardless, it would make sense if Star-Lord had some sort of cameo role in a potential sequel, especially if a threat is big enough to warrant some surprise third-act backup. Although Star-Lord may no longer be on the current roster, he’s still a Guardian and would be more than welcome.
9 Nova
A Marvel character who has yet to fully debut in the MCU, a potential Nova movie would be perfect for a Star-Lord appearance. Although the Nova Corps was introduced in the first Guardians of the Galaxynone of its recruits from Earth were featured. In the original comics, Richard Rider became a major leader of the Nova Corps as one of their Centurions. He’s also one of Star-Lord’s best friends, so seeing their friendship in the MCU would be very satisfying. Conversely, the younger Nova named Sam Alexander would be a great cosmic hero whom Star-Lord could mentor. Either way, Nova and the Legendary Star-Lord has a great ring to it.
8 Star-Lord Solo Movie
It’s also possible that Marvel Studios could give Star-Lord his own solo movie. Rather than solely being in ensemble projects such as Guardians or Avengers movies, Star-Lord could take the spotlight all for himself. It would also be interesting to know what’s next for Quill now that he’s learned to let go of Gamora and is finally reconciling with his past on Earth. While he could return to the stars, perhaps he becomes a more terrestrial-based hero instead in a theoretical The Legendary Star-Lord movie.
7 Marvels
Although it may be too soon, a brief appearance from Star-Lord in The Marvels would fit right in. Starring Captain Marvel, Photon, and Ms. Marvel as they join forces for the very first time, The Marvels looks to be a very energetic and wacky MCU project as the heroes will continually swap places with each other each time one of them uses their powers. Keeping that in mind, a Star-Lord cameo could be an added bonus to The Marvels which already looks to be lots of fun.
6 Deadpool 3
Rumored to be a big multiverse movie that will likely give Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a run for its money, Deadpool 3 is certainly a more left-field option on this list regarding the likelihood of a Star-Lord role. However, the upcoming movie will likely make a large impact as the first major MCU film starring mutants, an introduction that may come with some significant consequences for reality itself. As an upcoming MCU project with possible multiversal ramifications, so many things are on the table (including an appearance from Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill who’d have great comedic chemistry with Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson).
5 Fantastic Four
Known as Marvel’s First Family in the comics, the time has finally come for The Fantastic Four’s debut in the MCU. As the film is currently in development, it’s worth noting that The Fantastic Four are more than just another team of superheroes like the Avengers or X-Men. They’re also scientists and explorers venturing out into the unknown. This includes the cosmos, meaning that a possible run-in with Star-Lord either on Earth or in space could be in the cards being a galactic adventurer himself.
4 Spider-Man 4
Having nearly defeated Thanos together in Avengers: Infinity Warit’d be interesting to see what a reunion between the MCU’s two most notable Peters would look like in Spider-Man 4. After all, both Spider-Man and Star-Lord are in similar situations in the current MCU. Both are experiencing a major shift in their typical status quo, and both are now largely on their own. Perhaps Star-Lord’s time on Earth will include a visit to his fellow movie enjoyer (and they could argue the finer points of Footloose). However, it stands to reason that Star-Lord would only remember Spider-Man and not Parker (thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home).
3 Avengers: Kang Dynasty
The next big MCU crossover movie will be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty releasing in 2026. While little is known about the film beyond Kang the Conqueror serving as the primary antagonist, it’s expected that the movie will have all hands on deck as has been seen in previous Avengers films. This will be especially true for Star-Lord as the likelihood is high that he’ll already be on Earth, ready to assist Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when the time comes. Likewise, the notion that Star-Lord is truly one of “Earth’s Mightiest” now that he’s come home is rather exciting. Perhaps he’ll even become part of the New Avengers’ official roster.
2 Avengers: Secret Wars
The same logic for Star-Lord’s return applies to 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. In the original comics, 2015’s Secret Wars saw a patchwork realm of realities being created from the ashes of a destroyed multiverse (before a new one was eventually) born. As such, the multiversal threat of Avengers 6 will likely be even bigger than Avengers 5thus requiring even more heroes such as Star-Lord to assemble (including variants from other timelines and dimensions).
1 World War Hulk
Although its development has yet to be officially confirmed, the MCU is rumored to be working on a World War Hulk movie now that Marvel Studios has reportedly regained the distribution rights for the Hulk from Universal Pictures. There’s already been set up existing and future projects such as She-Hulk and Captain America: Brave New World. As such, it’s possible that Bruce Banner could finally get his own movie where he’s the lead. Likewise, the cosmic potential of a World War Hulk adaptation could be perfect for Star-Lord who could perhaps fulfill a co-starring role, mirroring the Hulk’s role alongside the God of Thunder in 2018’s Thor: Ragnarok.
