A Culinary Pilgrimage Side Quest Guide
Final Fantasy 16 is an exciting game that involves the protagonist, Clive Rosfield, exploring Valisthea and battling various forms of evil. While the main story is compelling, players can also indulge in several side quests that become available as they progress through the game.
One such side quest is A Culinary Pilgrimage. However, players can only access this quest after starting the Here Be Monsters main quest. Once they return to The Hideaway, two new side quests become available. To begin the A Culinary Pilgrimage quest, players must travel to The Ale Hall and speak to Yvan, the Kitchen Hand, who is reading a book beside the bar.
Yvan will tell Clive that Tomes lent him a cookbook full of recipes he wants to recreate. However, he lacks the main ingredient needed to make one of the dishes, which he calls “Unwonted Violets.” Unfortunately, the cookbook does not state what this ingredient is. Upon accepting the quest, Clive should fast-travel to Martha’s Rest, head west, and interact with the Flesher standing in the last stall on the left.
The Flesher will explain that “Unwanted Violets” is another term for scorpion tails. Since scorpion tails are no longer sold, Clive must find some living scorpions and take their tails. To do so, he should backtrack to the Obelisk, follow the bridge leading south, and head east into the Three Reeds. The scorpions can be found in the northeastern dead end.
Upon entering this area, Clive will face five Level 24 Lowland Scorpions, each of which drops an Unwonted Violet when defeated. These enemies are not overly dangerous, but they are stronger than most of the enemies found in the Three Reeds. If Clive has optimized his gear and upgraded his Eikon abilities, he should be able to handle them easily.
Once Clive has collected the Unwonted Violets, he can return to The Hideaway and speak to Yvan again. Yvan will panic, believing that adding scorpion tails to his dish will poison whoever eats it. However, he follows the recipe and includes the Unwonted Violets. Though he initially feels ill, he quickly regains his composure and declares it one of the best things he’s ever eaten.
Completing the A Culinary Pilgrimage quest rewards Clive with a Badge of Mettle +1, a powerful accessory that increases his defense by 30 points. Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively on PlayStation 5. So, players can enjoy this exciting game and indulge in various side quests while exploring Valisthea and fighting evil.
While most of Final Fantasy 16‘s main story tasks the protagonist, Clive Rosfield, with exploring Valisthea and confronting various forms of evil, players will also have several opportunities to pursue side quests during their playthrough. More side quests become available the further players progress; those hoping to complete the A Culinary Pilgrimage side quest will need to wait until they have started the Here Be Monsters main quest.

How To Find The Unwonted Violet Ingredient For Yvan
Yvan will tell Clive that Tomes lent him a cookbook full of recipes he wishes to recreate. Sadly, hopeful culinary genius doesn’t possess the main ingredient needed to create one of the dishes, and since Clive just so happens to be nearby, the task of ingredient-fetching falls to him.
To make matters worse, the cookbook doesn’t state what the ingredient is, only that some people refer to it as “Unwonted Violets.”
Upon accepting the A Culinary Pilgrimage side quest, Clive should fast-travel to Martha’s Rest, head west, and interact with the Flesher standing in the last stall on the left. The Flesher will explain to Clive that “Unwanted Violets” is just another term for scorpion tails.
With no one selling scorpion tails anymore, Clive will be forced to find some living scorpions and take their tails for himself. To find a den of them, he should backtrack to the Obelisk, follow the bridge leading south, and head east into the Three Reeds. The scorpions can then be found in the northeastern dead end.
Upon entering this area, Clive will be faced with five Level 24 Lowland Scorpionseach of which drops an Unwonted Violet when they have been defeated.
These enemies aren’t overly dangerous, especially if Clive has been optimizing his gear and upgrading his Eikon abilities, but they are a little bit stronger than most of the enemies found in the Three Reeds. So long as Clive is at a similar level, they shouldn’t pose that much of a challenge.
