Across The Spider-Verse Deleted Scene Reveals Action Scene With Prowler Miles

Unused test footage from the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse provides a deeper insight into the terrifying variant of Miles Morales and the dark world he hails from. While the previous film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), introduced only a few interdimensional Spider-People, its sequel in 2023, Across the Spider-Verse, sees Miles Morales, played by Shameik Moore, embark on a journey through the multiverse and confront a multitude of his own variants. While most of these variants are associated with the Spider Society, led by Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, Miles’ newest variant has a unique backstory.

The ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse left fans on a major cliffhanger, setting the stage for its sequel in 2024, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. After escaping from the Spider Society, Miles Morales finds himself in Earth-42 instead of his home Earth-1610. In this alternate reality, there is no Spider-Man, as Miles was the one bitten by the radioactive spider. Earth-42 is depicted as a strange universe where Miles’ father is deceased and his Uncle Aaron is alive, although he doesn’t assume the mantle of the Prowler. Instead, that responsibility falls on Miles G. Morales, whose story is explored in recently released test footage from Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came under a little scrutiny for ending on a major cliffhanger, even though this was designed to set up its 2024 sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. After escaping from the Spider Society, Miles Morales ends up on Earth-42 instead of his home Earth-1610. In this reality, there is no Spider-Man, as Earth-42’s radioactive spider bit Miles instead. Earth-42 was shown to be a strange universe in which Miles’ father is dead and his Uncle Aaron is still alive – though he isn’t the Prowler. Instead, this onus falls on Miles G. Morales, whose story has been expanded on in newly-released test footage from Across the Spider-Verse.

Miles G. Morales a.k.a. Wiles Morales in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse test footage

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was directed by trio Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers, the latter of whom recently released early test footage of Miles G. Morales on Earth-42 (via Twitter). Although this footage didn’t make the final film, it uncovers more of what Earth-42 is like and what role Miles G. Morales – then referred to as “Wiles Morales” – had alongside his Uncle Aaron as the Prowler. The footage features Miles and Aaron stealing medical supplies from a high-security compound and taking them across the city while under pursuit to deliver them to a sick child – who appears to be overseen by Miles’ mother.

This footage seems to suggest that Earth-42 is a much darker world than first suspected, potentially even hinting at funding issues for hospitals. If Miles G. Morales and Uncle Aaron need to steal medical supplies held at a secure compound and deliver them to a hospital, questions are raised as to why the hospital doesn’t have access to their supplies anyway. It seems that the lack of Spider-Man on Earth-42 means the citizens of this reality live in darkness, yet Miles G. Morales appears to be following in the footsteps of his more familiar variant, as he seems to be doing a heroic act rather than following a villainous path.

Miles G. Morales as the Prowler in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse ending

This test footage, combined with Miles G. Morales’ description as a “vigilante” in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The Art of the Movie book, suggests that Earth-1610’s Miles hasn’t been met by his villainous self but by another hero – albeit a morally questionable one. Miles G. Morales would have had to adapt his heroism to the dark Earth-42, taking a brutal approach along the lines of vigilantes such as Daredevil, Moon Knight, and the Punisher. This completely changes the impact of the ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseas it’s now likely that Miles Morales and Miles G. Morales could band together in future adventures rather than being enemies.
