The upcoming Indian film Adipurush has once again found itself at the center of controversy. The Hindu Sena has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court, seeking a ban on the film and the removal of any objectionable scenes depicting Hindu religious leaders, characters, or figures in bad taste.
The film, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and has been directed by Om Raut. The PIL was filed by Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta, and the full petition can be read below.
“Adipurush Depicts Religious Characters In Inaccurate & Inappropriate Manner”- Hindu Sena To Delhi High Court —
“This writ petition seeks public interest litigation under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, requesting the issuance of an appropriate writ in the nature of a direction to the respondents for the removal of objectionable scenes depicting religious leaders/characters/figures in bad taste.
Additionally, the petition seeks a writ of mandamus to the respondents, directing them to not certify the feature film Adipurush for public exhibition. The petition also requests that this honorable court pass such other or further order as it may deem fit and proper in the facts and circumstances of the case.”
“The petitioner has filed this PIL against the feature film Adipurush directed by Om Raut, which has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community by depicting religious leaders/characters/figures in an inaccurate and inappropriate manner.
This is contrary to the description of Hindu religious leaders/characters as described in Ramayana, authored by writers like Maharishi Valmiki and Saint Tulsidas. The petitioner is aggrieved, concerned, and hurt by such an inaccurate description of the religious leaders/characters in the film Adipurush and gave a representation dated 04.10.2022 to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, as of the date of filing this petition, the said representation has not been responded to.”

Additionally, it requests a writ of mandamus to prevent the certification of Adipurush for public exhibition. The petition also asks the court to issue any other appropriate orders as deemed fit and proper.
According to the petition, the film has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community by depicting religious leaders, characters, and figures inaccurately and inappropriately. The portrayal is contrary to the description of Hindu religious leaders and characters in Ramayana, authored by writers such as Maharishi Valmiki and Saint Tulsidas.
The petitioner is aggrieved, concerned, and hurt by the inaccurate description and has made a representation to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which has gone unanswered.
The court has yet to make a decision on the matter, and the controversy surrounding Adipurush continues.
Om Raut’s Adipurush has landed in trouble again as the Hindu Sena filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the film. They also demanded a ban on the Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan starrer based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. “This is a writ petition in the shape of public interest litigation under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for issuance of an appropriate writ in the nature of direction to the respondents for removal of objectionable scenes depicting religious leaders /characters/figures in bad taste and issues a writ of mandamus to the respondents directing them to not certify the feature film Adipurush for public exhibition and pass such other or further order as this hon’ble court may deem fit and proper in the facts and circumstances of the case.”
“That the petitioner has preferred the aforesaid Writ petition in the shape of PIL against the feature film “ADIPURUSH” directed by Om Raut which has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community by depicting the religious leaders/characters/figures in an inaccurate and inappropriate manner contrary to the description of Hindu religious leaders/characters as described in Ramayana authored by writers like Maharishi Valmiki, Saint Tulsidas etc.
The Petitioner being aggrieved, concerned and hurt by such an inaccurate description of the religious leaders/characters in the film ‘Adipurush’ gave a Representation dated 04.10.2022 to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, the said representation has not been responded to as of date”.
