Avengers Officially Ditch Their Celestial Corpse Base for New Headquarters
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for The Avengers (2023) #2!The Avengers have had a number of iconic headquarters over the years, but their newest base, the Jarvis Lounge, not only represents their new status quo but also pays tribute to one of their oldest friends. After being located in an alien corpse in the frozen Arctic for some time, a bar/lounge is surely a welcome sight for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as well as somewhere much closer to the rest of the Marvel Universe.
In The Avengers (2023) #2 by Jed MacKay, Carlos Villa, Federico Blee, and Cory Petit, the Avengers have established their new base in the Jarvis Lounge, a converted bar and former laboratory named after their loyal butler, Edwin Jarvis. The Lounge, located in New York City, was first introduced in Al Ewing, Kasia Nie, K.J. Diaz, and Cory Petit’s Wasp (2023) #1 as the converted former laboratory of Janet Van Dyne’s father, Dr. Vernon Van Dyne. The Lounge is a combined bar, lounge, and Avengers HQ that Wasp hopes will serve as a place for heroes to both work and relax. Now, with Captain Marvel leading the new Avengers squad from the Lounge, its potential is finally being realized. This is especially notable after a period where the team were located somewhere far less hospitable.
The Jarvis Lounge is a Classic Avengers HQ
In Jason Aaron’s previous Avengers (2018) series, the Avengers resided in the hollowed-out corpse of the Progenitor, the first-ever Celestial to visit Earth. Upon moving into the corpse in the Arctic, they renamed it Avengers Mountain. However, in the conclusion of Aaron’s run, Avengers Assemble Omega #1 by Aaron, Javier Garrón, Aaron Kuder, Jim Towe, Ivan Fiorelli, Alex Sinclair, and Cory Petit, Avengers Mountain is taken over by Avenger Prime, an alternate heroic Loki, and now exists in the dimension known as the God Quarry. This leaves the door open for a new base, finally giving the Jarvis Lounge its due.
The Lounge is far more in line with classic Avengers headquarters than the Progenitor ever was. The team’s first base was Avengers Mansion, originally owned by Tony Stark, which was replaced with the now-iconic Avengers Tower after the mansion’s destruction in Avengers Disassembled (Avengers vol 1 #500-504) by Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch, Danny Miki, Frank D’armata, Albert Deschesne, and Richard Starkings. While the Lounge is less ostentatious than either of the previous bases, it is still a luxurious home from which the Avengers are both secure and public-facing.

The latest Avengers series has so far placed an emphasis on the Avengers saving people, with Captain Marvel likening the team to firefighters. So it’s appropriate that they’re now once again based out of NYC, the unofficial hub of superhuman activity in the Marvel Universe. With a renewed purpose and a fancy new base to boot, this Avengers team promises to fulfill their heroic mandate by meeting the Marvel Universe where it lives.
