Bella Ramsey, the star of “The Last of Us,” recently opened up about their evolving sexual orientation. In an interview with Vogue for their July Pride Issue, the 19-year-old actor shared that they believe sexual orientation is constantly changing and evolving.
Ramsey, who prefers they/them pronouns, added that they have had anxiety around pronouns and struggled to find the right fit. However, they now feel that being called “they” is the most truthful representation of who they are.

They also referred to themselves as “wavy” and “not 100 percent straight.”

Ramsey shared that they explored their sexuality more while filming “The Last of Us” in Canada from July 2021 to June 2022. The wardrobe department was supportive, offering different undergarments such as a regular bra, a binder, and a sports bra. Ramsey felt comfortable wearing a binder, and there was never any pressure to do otherwise.

During the interview, Ramsey also mentioned the support they received from their co-star Pedro Pascal, who played Joel. Ramsey felt like Pascal had their back, and they take care of each other. Pascal’s sister is transgender, so he understands the importance of using correct pronouns and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

Ramsey publicly announced their non-binary identity in a New York Times article in January, stating that their gender has always been fluid. They love being mistaken for a boy growing up, and being called “he” was exciting for them. Ultimately, Ramsey identifies as a person above all else.
Bella Ramsey believes their sexual orientation is always changing.
“You never fully know who you are, it’s ever evolving,” the “Last of Us” star, 19, told Vogue for their July Pride Issue Tuesday.
“But I certainly think that people have gathered that I’m not 100 percent straight. I’m a little bit wavy, you know? That’s what I like to say.”
Ramsey, who uses they/them to describe themselves, added that they had “a lot of anxiety around pronouns.”
“When ‘The Last of Us’ first came out, I was like, ‘Everyone just call me “she” because I look like a “she” to you, so it’s fine,’” the actor explained.
“But now I’m able to vocalize it more, being called ‘they’ is the most truthful thing for me. That’s who I am the most.”

Ramsey said they explored their sexuality further while filming the HBO series in Canada from July 2021 to June 2022, particularly with the wardrobe department’s help.
“The costume supervisor would put several different undergarments in my room: a regular bra, a binder, a sports bra,” they shared.
“She’d say, ‘You just pick whatever is most comfortable for you today,’ and in the end it was just a binder. There was never anyone pressuring me.”

Ramsey also received support from their co-star Pedro Pascal, who played the role of Joel.

Ramsey first disclosed publicly that they identify as non-binary in a New York Times article in January, stating that they loved being mistaken for a boy growing up.
“I guess my gender has always been very fluid,” they said at the time. “Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”
The “Game of Thrones” alum then noted, “I’m very much just a person.”
