Tunic is a charming isometric action adventure following an adorable fox warrior who wakes up on the shore of a strange land. In the style of a classic Legend of Zelda game, you traverse the lands, delving into dark dungeons, battling monsters, and fighting tough bosses.

The game’s unique twist comes in the form of the in-game manual pages you’ll acquire as you play. Modeled after the pamphlets included with classic games, each page offers important hints about the game; the problem is, each page is written in a strange language, and you’ll collect the pages out of order. You’ll find a page that shows you how to use an ability that you’ve actually had all along; you simply didn’t know how to use it. This sort of meta element only grows stronger the further into the game you get, offering a deeply rewarding loop of discovery and ‘ah-ha!’ moments.

With a highly anticipated sequel releasing in the near future, this game is a must-play for all Star Wars fans.

High On Life

High On Life game with Talking Guns

Release Date

December 13, 2022

Genre

First-person shooter, Adventure, Platform

Developer

Squanch Games

File Size

50 GB

Created by the creators of the legendary Rick and Morty animated series, High On Life is a comedic first-person shooter that came out in December last year. Although the game got a mixed reception from the community because of its less impactful story, it’s hard to deny the fact that the game features some incredible gameplay mechanics.

The colorful yet bloody environment of High on Life grabs your attention from the start. Since each weapon in the game talks to the player and has a different personality, the game never stops being entertaining. Not every joke in the game will make you chuckle, but it’s not supposed to do that, either. It’s a game, so it’s a good thing that you don’t feel distracted by the constant jibber-jabber of the guns and can focus on the gameplay instead. At times, the writing might feel out of place, but the gameplay doesn’t. If you love lighthearted games that aren’t too deep but still entertaining, give High on Life a shot.

Unpacking

November 2, 2021

Genre

Cozy Puzzle Game

Developer

Witch Beam

File Size

1 GB

When you’re craving a quieter, more relaxing gameplay experience, look no further than Unpacking. This short indie has you, well, unpacking! You jump to different points in the main character’s life — moving into their college dorm, their first apartment, etc. — and you have to unpack their belongings, finding the perfect place for every item. The gameplay is incredibly simple, yet oh so satisfying. Few items have one single place that they need to go, and you’ll often have more items than you know what to do with, forcing you to get a bit creative with your organization skills.

The game also offers a unique narrative experience. With no dialogue or even characters seen, the story unfolds exclusively in the environments you explore and the items you unpack. You’ll grow attached to those special items that she carries with her no matter where she goes, and you’ll witness heartbreak and happiness in turn as she enters each new phase of her life. There’s nothing else quite like Unpacking, and at only 3-4 hours to complete, it’s a fantastic game to dig into on a relaxing evening at home.

The game is filled with fantastic level design, challenging bosses to defeat, and memorable characters you’ll meet along the way. This game oozes personality, combining a thrilling adventure with the boring ‘desk job’ aspects of the game’s afterlife. Don’t miss this incredible adventure.

Exo One

Release Date

November 18, 2021

Genre

Scifi Adventure Game

Developer

Exbleative

File Size

3.66 GB

A light-on-narrative exploration game, you’re piloting an experimental spacecraft, the designs of which were sent to Earth by some mysterious presence beyond our solar system. The game is much more of a ‘vibe’ than a structured narrative adventure; you’ll move from various planetary environments, changing the shape and density of your spacecraft in order to glide, fly, dive, and leap across these bizarre worlds.

Using your momentum to traverse the world, you’re always moving toward a new beacon point that will launch you toward a new world. The experience is an extremely unique one and one well worth the couple of hours it takes to play. Exo One is a perfect example of a great Game Pass game — not one I’d have likely checked out otherwise, but one that I’m thankful for being able to experience.

Minecraft Legends

Minecraft Legends Feature

Release Date

April 18, 2023

Genre

Action, Adventure, and Strategy

Developer

Mojang Studios, Blackbird Interactive

File Size

7.04 GB

The much-awaited spin-off of Mojang’s legendary Sandbox title, Minecraft Legends, came out last month for multiple platforms. It’s a third-person action game that also dives into the strategy element. The narrative is pretty straightforward, and honestly, it’s not the main USP of the title; however, you’ll still enjoy some core elements of the story.

The gameplay, on the other hand, is a hell lot of fun, and you can experience that solo in co-op or competitive multiplayer. The visuals are awesome, and there’s not even a single instance where you feel that the world is not alive. If you love Minecraft, then you would love this narrative take on the same world.

Loop Hero

Loop Hero Game Cover

Release Date

March 4, 2021

Genre

RPG Strategy Roguelike

Developer

Four Quarters

File Size

515.3 MB

If you’re looking for a unique game, you have to check out Loop Hero. This fantasy roguelike offers an oddly passive experience. Your character will automatically patrol the loop of the board, and along the way, you will place locations for them to visit (both hostile and friendly) and find gear to equip. All the while, the hero will automatically continue along the path, automatically fighting enemies.

The gameplay revolves completely around item and board management, building the world around the hero as they patrol through it, outfitting them with the best loot, finding incredible item synergies, and striking a careful balance between adding enough enemies to gain good experience and loot without getting the hero killed. Between loops, you can invest in upgrades at your hub village, unlocking boons that persist through each cycle. Loop Hero requires your attention to play optimally, but not all of your attention, making it an excellent podcast game.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo horror gameplay

Release Date

March 25, 2022

Genre

Action-adventure, RPG

Developer

Tango Gameworks

File Size

26 GB

If you fancy games that bring out legendary lores, myths, or legends to life, then you would absolutely adore Ghostwire: Tokyo. This underrated title comes from the minds of Tango Gameworks, the developer that recently gave us Hi-Fi Rush. Set in the city of Tokyo, the game gives you control of a character who finds himself lost in a city full of hellish creatures. Possessed by a friendly spirit, our confused protagonist sets out on a journey to find his sister while also unlocking several satisfying magical abilities.

RELATED: Ghostwire Tokyo Review: A Spellbinding Experience

The Boss fights in the game aren’t something to be proud of, but the abilities are surely fun no matter how many times you use them on enemies. Even if you don’t find the story too captivating, you will definitely stick until the end because of the gameplay. The combat, music, anime-style combat, and mysterious dark alleys of Tokyo make (or will make) Ghostwire a cult classic.

Valheim

Viking on a mountain (Valheim)

Release Date

February 2, 2021

Genre

Adventure, RPG, Survival, Sandbox, Indie

Developer

Iron Gate Studio, Fishlabs, Piktiv

File Size

1.8 GB

If you love Survival games where you have to build tools and gather other resources to face the dangers of the world, then Valheim is the perfect game for you. Still in the Early Access, Valheim is set in the Viking era, where you, the player, sets out on an unforgiving journey to prove yourself worthy of Valhalla. It has been a while since the game has been in Early Access, but thanks to the variety of game mechanics and the detailed world-building, the title still has a cult following.

The game allows you to create your own unique world, where you’ll get different enemy types, environments, and bosses. You can also work on different skills, making yourself a truly formidable character within your Biome. If you try this title on Game Pass, you’ll surely get immersed in its massive world.

Watch Dogs 2

Watch Dogs 2

Release Date

March 25, 2022

Genre

Action-adventure, RPG

Developer

Tango Gameworks

File Size

26 GB

Who doesn’t love to be a techie in a world dominated by technology? Well, Watch Dogs 2 beautifully expands on the idea while also giving players an engaging and immersive open-world setting. Set in San Francisco, the story gives you control of Marcus, a normal hacker who gets mixed up with not-so-normal people.

The story of Watch Dogs 2 may not be the best, but it does offer unique gameplay. Players are given the option to handle things the “hacker way” by being sneaky in every situation, or they can simply choose the gangster way by going guns blazing. The hacking in this title is much better than what Ubisoft offered in the first game, and it really forces you to be smart and finds ways to complete a mission through hacking.

Immortality

Release Date

August 30, 2022

Genre

Interactive Film Game

Developer

Half Mermaid Productions

File Size

30 GB

If you’re in the mood for a twisted and addicting Interactive Film game, Immortality is perhaps the weirdest and best in the genre. When you first begin, you’re presented with three never-released movies that all-star Marissa Marcel, an actress who acted in only these movies before she died under mysterious circumstances. Your goal is to scrub through various movie and behind-the-scenes clips, selecting items or characters that then bounce you to another clip based on what you selected, all in the hopes of figuring out what exactly happened to her.

It’s hard to describe the experience of randomly bouncing between three movies, slowly piecing together not only the plot of those movies but more overarching themes and characters that bridge all three films — but it’s an experience like no other. The deeper you go, the more uneasy the experience will make you feel and the more addicted you’ll become to finding answers.

Immortal Fenyx Rising

Immortals - Character Fighting Griffin

Release Date

December 3, 2020

Genre

Open-world, Action-adventure

Developer

Ubisoft

File Size

32.95 GB

Looking for an unforgettable Greek adventure? If yes, then you should definitely try out Ubisoft’s Immortal Fenyx Rising. The title features Breath Of the Wild and Genshin Impact-like game mechanics, but it’s the story that keeps you invested in the game. The exploration may not be that rewarding in the game, but the constant jibber-jabber between Zeus and Prometheus doesn’t let off the hooks.

You spend a major portion of the game collecting a variety of mythological weapons for the main characters. There are unique puzzles to solve, a massive world to explore, and unique and sometimes bizarre enemies to fight. While some may say that Immortal Fenyx Rising is ripped off from BOTW or Genshin, the truth is the title offers so many unique experiences for players. And since it is available on Game Pass, you won’t have to think that hard on whether you should spend money to give this a shot.

Among Us

Among Us Dead Imposter Crewmate Running

Release Date

June 18, 2018

Genre

Multiplayer, Survival, Social deduction, Multiplayer online

Developer

InnerSloth

File Size

1 GB

Among Us is of those rare gems that got the community’s attention a few years after its initial release. The game features a straightforward formula. You create a party with your friends (or join a party online) and perform different tasks on a spaceship; however, there’s one catch — one of you is an imposter. So, while other crew members are performing their tasks, that imposter is finding the right time to kill everyone onboard.

This simple premise gets a lot of fun because of it makes you pay attention to everyone’s movements. If the hardworking crewmembers are able to point out the imposter, they win; otherwise, the imposter takes the cake (kidding, there’s no cake). It’s a fun multiplayer title that offers you a thrilling experience, and since it’s available on multiple platforms and on Game Pass, you don’t have to think twice before trying this out with your friends.
