Bethenny Frankel recruits ‘over 80 people’ in Bravo, NBC war

Bethenny Frankel has enlisted the help of renowned attorneys Bryan Freedman and Mark Geragos to launch a legal battle against NBC and its subsidiary Bravo. According to Variety, this move has garnered significant support from the reality star community. Freedman, in an interview with Variety, revealed that he has already heard from approximately 50 reality show cast members. However, a source familiar with the situation now claims that there are even more individuals interested in joining the cause, with at least 80 people reaching out so far.

Freedman and Geragos have already taken action by sending a legal threat to Kimberley Harris, NBCUniversal’s General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation. In the letter, obtained by TheFantasyTimes, they accuse NBC and Bravo of deliberately fostering “mental instability” among their talent by providing them with alcohol while depriving them of food, sleep, and necessary mental health treatment. The source, who remains anonymous, states that the number of individuals involved is significant, including cast members from various Bravo shows, particularly those from the “Real Housewives” franchise.

The insider also claims that the network’s alleged mistreatment extends to the production crew, describing their working conditions as exhausting and likening them to animals. This has led to speculation that the case could potentially involve a broader range of individuals beyond the reality stars themselves.

Bethenny Frankel has been at the forefront of efforts to unionize reality stars, particularly in light of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. It is believed that her followers consist largely of former “Real Housewives” cast members. Frankel is collaborating with Freedman and Geragos to investigate how NBC and Bravo handle their reality stars.

A specific incident involving insensitivity towards race and class seems to have heightened tensions. Showrunners reportedly walked off the set during the filming of the last season of “The Real Housewives of New York” due to offensive comments. The cast members felt silenced, and Bravo’s decision to not air the reunion episode added to the perception of a cover-up. As a result, the original cast members were replaced with a new group of individuals.

In response to the threats from Frankel and her legal team, NBC released a statement affirming their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for both cast and crew on their reality shows. They claim to have strict workplace policies and training in place and assure prompt action, including investigations and necessary support, when complaints are brought to their attention.

It’s the power of Bethenny Frankel.

Frankel enlisted legal eagles Bryan Freedman and Mark Geragos to wage a reality war on NBC and its subsidiary Bravo earlier this week, according to Variety.

And we’re hearing the reality star community are more than eager to join her cause.

Freedman told Variety he’d heard from roughly “50 reality show castmembers” and now a source familiar with the situation tells TheFantasyTimes there’s even more.

“It’s going to be a massive thing. There are multiple individuals wanting to join this … at least 80 people have reached out, men and women,” they said.

On Friday, Freedman and Geragos fired off a legal threat to NBCUniversal’s General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation, Kimberley Harris.

In the letter, obtained by TheFantasyTimes, they accuse NBC and Bravo of making “deliberate attempts” to “manufacture mental instability” by plying their talent with “alcohol while depriving them of food and sleep, as well as denying mental health treatment for those displaying obvious and alarming signs of mental deterioration.”

Our insider would not name names of the people already involved, but told us, “It’s definitely ‘Housewife’ heavy” with “multiple franchises of ‘Housewives,’ but it’s people from all different Bravo shows.”

They doubled down on the email alleging the network is “feeding them alcohol, not giving them food.”

“The conditions are mentally exhausting to get the best content,” the source added.

Another Bravo insider told us it’s no secret that “Bethenny is recruiting people” and believes the bulk of her followers are “former housewife types.” Frankel was on a crusade to unionize reality stars amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

But perhaps the most pissed-off set might be those behind the scenes, with the source describing Bravo as working production “like animals.”

“It may be a bigger case with them,” they said.

Case in point: We hear showrunners apparently walked off while filming the last season of “The Real Housewives of New York” over insensitive comments around race and class.

They further claimed the cast was silenced and “it felt like a cover-up” when Bravo didn’t air the reunion. They subsequently axed the OGs and rebooted with a new set of apples.

A spokesperson for NBC responded to Frankel and the power attorney’s threats, insisting they’re “committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows.”

“At the outset, we require our third-party production partners to have appropriate workplace policies and training in place. If complaints are brought to our attention, we work with our production partners to ensure that timely, appropriate action is or has been taken, including investigations, medical and/or psychological support, and other remedial action that may be warranted such as personnel changes,” they said.
