Dedicated Gamer Successfully Collects Every Wii U Game
After more than a decade since the release of the Nintendo Wii U, a devoted Nintendo enthusiast has finally completed their physical Wii U collection by acquiring the final game. Despite the Wii U’s commercial failure, Nintendo gained valuable feedback and ideas that proved to be essential for the success of the Nintendo Switch.
The Wii U is Nintendo’s eighth-generation console and the successor to the Wii, which sold over 100 million units worldwide. However, the Wii U was unable to replicate the success of its predecessor, with sales quickly declining in the years following its launch in late 2012. Only 13.56 million Wii U units were sold, and Nintendo had already begun to shift its attention away from the console in 2016 while developing the Nintendo Switch. In March 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released as the Switch’s launch title and the Wii U’s last first-party title. Moreover, several other Wii U titles have been added to the Switch library, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe.
Video game collector and TikTok user Paul Weber has successfully completed his physical Wii U game collection by acquiring the 189th title required. In a recent TikTok video, Paul shared the story of how he finally obtained the last Wii U game, which happened to be The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. The physical Wii U version of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is extremely rare, so Paul had to travel to the Retro Jakes store in Richmond, Indiana to purchase the game while it was in stock. The physical copy of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 costs $320, but Paul was willing to pay the price to complete his Wii U collection.
Paul initially started the TikTok series to showcase local retro gaming stores, but it eventually encouraged him to engage in video game collecting, ultimately resulting in the acquisition of the final Wii U game. In the TikTok video, Paul provides a glimpse of his extensive collection of physical Nintendo Switch games and teases the possibility of another series of TikTok videos to come.
Despite the Wii U’s failure to gain commercial success, some Nintendo fans still cherish the console and its game library. Paul’s achievement of completing the Wii U collection is impressive and unlikely to be replicated easily, as physical Wii U titles are becoming more scarce and expensive. Nintendo fans looking to purchase a physical Wii U title may want to consider buying a Switch version if available.
