Dream Girl 2 Vs Dream Girl 1 Lifetime Box Office; Why Sequel Failed To Beat The Predecessor?
The clash between Dream Girl 2 and its predecessor Dream Girl at the Indian box office is nearing its end. Dream Girl 2 has achieved Hit status in India, earning close to 100 crore nett in five weeks. However, it has fallen short of surpassing the success of Dream Girl, which is disappointing for the makers.
Dream Girl 2 faced delays due to date conflicts with the Bakri Eid release and avoided clashes with other major films. Regardless of the clash, whether it be with big or moderate-budget films, it tends to negatively impact business. Dream Girl had a solo release on August 25th but was affected by the earlier releases of Gadar 2 and OMG 2. Interestingly, August witnessed the release of three sequels, all of which became box office hits. However, Dream Girl 2 performed the weakest, despite having greater potential than OMG 2 (clash affected its performance).
In addition, Dream Girl 2 failed to deliver the expected content, as the comedy was louder and more low-budget this time. In the original Dream Girl, Ayushmann played a man with a woman’s voice, which added a unique charm to the character. However, in the sequel, he portrayed a woman with annoying prosthetics. Despite this, the brand value of Dream Girl helped carry it forward, albeit with a decline in its standard.
Ayushmann played a significant role in Dream Girl 1, which contributed to its success. However, Dream Girl 2 falls short in comparison and will end up approximately 40 crore behind its predecessor, despite being a sequel. This raises the question of the purpose of a sequel, as it fails to match the value of the original film, even with higher ticket prices and box office expansion. Regarding audience turnout, DG 2 only attracted half the number of viewers compared to Dream Girl, despite its established brand value.
Gadar 2 did impact its business, but to the extent of only half the audience? No. Gadar 2 performed exceptionally well in single screens, while this Raaj Shandilyaa comedy targeted multiplex audiences. Therefore, Gadar 2 cannot be solely blamed for the underperformance of DG 2. However, DG 2 did bring positive news for the box office, proving that the comedy genre is still popular. It just needs a good film, which unfortunately, Dream Girl 2 was not.
Here are the collections of Dream Girl 2:
First Week – 63.08 crore

Third Week – 21.06 crore

Dream Girl 2 Vs Dream Girl 1 Box Office: Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday’s Dream Girl 2 is about to end its theatrical run in India. The film has emerged as a Hit in India, with earnings close to 100 crore nett in five weeks. However, it has failed to beat its predecessor by a good margin, which isn’t pleasant news for makers.
Dream Girl 2 was postponed due to date issues from the Bakri Eid release and also because it wasn’t in the mood to clash with any other biggie. Big films or moderate-budget films don’t matter when the clash tends to eat up business in any case. Dream Girl got a solo release on August 25th, but it was damaged by earlier releases, Gadar 2 and OMG 2. It’s a funny coincidence that August saw three sequels, and all three were box office hits. Well, Dream Girl 2 was the lowest, despite having bigger potential than OMG 2 (clash hampered it).
DG 2 also didn’t provide the content it was supposed to deliver, as the comedy was much noisier and cheaper this time. Dream Girl 1 had Ayushmann playing a man with the voice of a woman, which provides a soft security to the character’s exposure. But in the sequel, we saw him playing a woman with annoying prosthetics. Nevertheless, the brand value of Dream Girl carried it ahead, with damage to its own standard.
dream girl 2 is an underwhelming sequel, but more than it was underwhelming grosser. It will end up almost 40 crore behind its predecessor, which was a fresh film. What’s the use of a sequel? The value of the original film is far from its range, even with higher ticket rates and box office expansion. Talking of footfalls, DG 2 has just edged past half of Dream Girl’s footfalls. That means only half of your audience came to the cinema, and that too after creating brand value.
Gadar 2 did affect its business, but half of its audience? No. Gadar 2 was on fire on single screens, while this Raaj Shandilyaa comedy was fronted by multiplex audiences, so one can’t even blame Gadar 2 fully. But DG 2 did bring good news for box office windows and proved that the comedy genre is still alive. All it needs is a good film, and unfortunately, DreamGirl 2 wasn’t it.
