Every Member Of Ewan McGregor’s Family Who’ve Appeared In Star Wars

Ewan McGregor’s return to the Star Wars universe in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series last year solidified his legacy in the franchise. However, McGregor’s connection to Star Wars runs deeper, with his family members also appearing in various Star Wars projects.

While Mark Hamill had his three children cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, McGregor’s familial links to Star Wars are more prominent. Other notable names in Star Wars, such as George Lucas and Carrie Fisher, have had their family members make cameos in Star Wars projects.

One of McGregor’s relatives with a significant role in Star Wars is his uncle, Denis Lawson. Lawson is best known for playing ace pilot Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy. He reprised his role as Wedge in a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker, which was a poignant moment for fans. McGregor also made a vocal cameo as part of the voices of Jedi past in the same film. Lawson fondly remembers his time on set for the original Star Wars trilogy, where he built strong relationships with other actors.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, McGregor’s wife, is set to make her Star Wars debut as the live-action version of Hera Syndulla in the Ahsoka Disney+ series. Although the couple is unlikely to appear in a Star Wars project together, Star Wars has become another thing that brings them closer together.

Esther-Rose McGregor, Ewan McGregor’s daughter from his previous marriage, made a cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 2 as Tetha Grig, a spice dealer on the planet Daiyu. She has a great family history in Star Wars, with her father, stepmother, and great-uncle all part of the galaxy in important, if very different, roles.

It’s exciting to see how Star Wars has connected one family through three generations, and it remains to be seen if other members of McGregor’s clan will eventually join the franchise.

Last year, Ewan McGregor returned to Star Wars in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series, and it further solidified his lasting legacy in the franchise. Outside the role of Obi-Wan, McGregor has a deep connection to the franchise due to his family’s appearances in different Star Wars projects. While other Star Wars legends like Mark Hamill had his three children cameo in Star Wars: The Last JediMcGregor’s familial links to Star Wars are a bit more prominent.

Other prominent names in Star Wars have had their family make cameos, like George Lucas, who had all three of his children, Amanda, Katie, and Jett, appear throughout the prequel trilogy; Amanda Lucas even had multiple roles across all three of the films. More recently, Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd played Lieutenant Connix in all three of the sequel films, and also served as the body stand-in as Princess Leia in a flashback for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While these may have been more connected to parentage, McGregor’s relatives have largely gotten roles in Star Wars despite his involvement in the franchise.

3 Denis Lawson

The 75-year-old Scottish actor is known best for playing ace pilot Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy, but he also has another relationship with the extended galaxy. Lawson is McGregor’s uncle, and though they’ve never shared the screen as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Wedge Antilles, Lawson reprised his role as Wedge in a tragic The Rise of Skywalker cameo aboard the Millennium Falcon. The duo did participate in the same film, as McGregor made a vocal cameo as part of the voices of Jedi past.

Though he’s better known for his theater work, Lawson fondly remembers his time on set for the original Star Wars trilogy, which he recounted recently at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Lawson said that one of the best parts of working on Star Wars was the relationships he got to build with other actors, like Hamill and his family. When Lawson’s experience is framed so positively, it’s easy to see why his nephew eagerly took on the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

2 Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be making her Star Wars debut later this summer as the live-action version of Hera Syndulla in the Ahsoka Disney+ series. Hera is already a beloved character from her time in Star Wars Rebelsand Winstead has the opportunity to make the character her own. In real life, Winstead is married to McGregor, and they have a son named Laurie. The couple have been together since 2017, but married in 2022. Despite the fact that the two will likely never be seen in a Star Wars project together, Winstead and McGregor now have Star Wars as another thing to bring them closer together.

Winstead is best known for roles in films like Sky Highand Final Destination 3but also served as one of the leads in the cult favorite Scott Pilgrim vs. the Worldwhere she played Ramona Flowers. Recently, she joined the DCU to play the Huntress in Birds of Preya film in which McGregor was the main antagonist. Even though Winstead’s Star Wars tenure is just beginning, there’s hope that Hera will appear in future projects like upcoming seasons of The Mandalorian, Skeleton Crewor even Dave Filoni’s upcoming The Mandalorian film.

1 Esther-Rose McGregor

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Spice Dealer

The 21-year-old actress hasn’t had many roles, but with so many accomplished actors in her family, it’s not a surprise that Esther-Rose is involved in the entertainment business. She’s the second oldest of McGregor’s four daughters with ex-wife Eve Mavrakis. Esther-Rose is reportedly very close with one of her adoptive sisters, Jamyan, as they were born only five months apart. The actress was a baby when her father finished his first stint as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy, but was more involved in his 2022 return to the character in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Esther-Rose made a cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 2 as Tetha Grig, a spice dealer on the grimy planet Daiyu. In the episode, she tried to sell Obi-Wan spice, but he instead asked for information about where kidnappers were holding a young Princess Leia Organa. Esther-Rose has a great family history in Star Wars with her father, stepmother, and great-uncle all part of the galaxy in important, if very different, roles. While it remains to be seen if other members of McGregor’s clan will eventually join the franchise, it’s fun to see how Star Wars has connected one family through three generations.
