Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

This summer is packed with superhero sequels, starting with James Gunn’s trilogy finale Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and continuing with Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin Thompson’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, in collaboration with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. This exceptional sequel not only builds upon the original but also sets the stage for the next chapter, exceeding expectations and becoming one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made, captivating audiences the way that Avengers: Endgame did.

However, if you’re tired of superhero movies, we’ve got you covered with all the juicy details and spoilers from Across the Spider-Verse. Whether you want to teach your friend who hasn’t seen the movie a lesson or read about the most exciting moments, you’ve come to the right place. Here are all the spoilers about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

A Stunning Combination of Art Forms

If you were a fan of the incredible animation in Into The Spider-Verse, you’ll be pleased to know that Across the Spider-Verse takes it to the next level. The stunning visuals on the screen are even better than what you could have imagined, creating an exceptional combination of different styles, such as comic book ink art, Legos, and live-action, all on the same screen. Furthermore, the movie’s soundtrack is equally impressive, incorporating various music genres, including hip-hop, classical, and rock, to enhance each character’s depth. With its breathtaking artistry, Across the Spider-Verse is a work of art that is sure to amaze its viewers.

Many Spider-People Appear

When Spider-Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) follows Spider-Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) into the interdimensional Spider Society led by Spider-Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), they explain the Canon Events that must occur in every dimension to every Spider-Person. We see different Spider-People losing their loved ones, including Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men mourning their Uncle Ben in flashbacks. We also hear O’Hara complaining about Doctor Strange and “that little nerd” Holland, suggesting that Sony’s Spider-Verse may be a part of Disney’s MCU Multiverse.

Spider-Miles Was Never Meant to Exist

The Society tries to stop Miles from leaving and changing his canon because their goal is to keep the canon as it is. However, we learn that Miles is the product of a broken canon, as the radioactive spider that bit him and gave him his powers came from another dimension. This led to the Spider-Man in Miles’ dimension dying, and the dimension where the spider came from never having a Spider-Man to protect it. The more Miles changes the canon, the greater the risk of dimensions collapsing upon themselves and destroying everything in them.

Who Dies?

x

We don’t see any real deaths occur during the movie, only in flashbacks, but they’re all significant. We see all the different Spider-People losing their Uncle Ben, with Garfield’s and Keaten’s losing Gwen’s police captain father as canon events that spur the Spiders into becoming more than they were before. The most important loss, however, is the death of O’Hara’s daughter, which is why he created the Spider Society. O’Hara jumped to a dimension where he was already dead to take over his other self’s family, but this caused the collapse of the entire dimension, and O’Hara’s daughter dusted out of his arms like Thanos’ snap.

Miles’ Dad is Doomed to Die

Miles risks his entire dimensional reality to break the canon and save his father, Jefferson (Brian Tyree Henry), who will be promoted to captain, triggering a canon event that will lead to his death, just like Gwen’s dad. Miles tries to change his canon to save his father, going against every single Spider. However, Miles doesn’t reach his father before the end of the film, so we don’t know if Jefferson will survive the third movie.

That Cliffhanger…

Miles attempts to return to his dimension, but the teleporter confuses the DNA of the spider that bit him and his own DNA. Miles ends up in a dimension with no Spider-Man and meets his uncle again, the Prowler (Mahershala Ali), who died in his dimension. His uncle traps him, and Miles meets himself in the dimension, learning that he is the Prowler, ending the film with such a powerful cliffhanger that doesn’t have any need for a post-credits to make us anxious for the threequel Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The Society tries to stop Miles from leaving, as Miles wants to change his canon, and the Society’s entire purpose is to keep the canon the way it is. But earlier, when Miles, Gwen, and O’Hara were explaining the rules of the Spider-Verse, we learn that Miles himself is the result of a broken canon, as the radioactive spider which bit him and gave Miles his powers was not from his dimension but taken from another dimension. This caused the Spider-Man in Miles’ dimension to die, and the dimension that the spider came from never got a Spider-Man to protect it.
