Final Fantasy 16 New Game + Mode Guide (What Carries Over?)

In modern video games, it’s become increasingly common to see a New Game Plus mode, especially in RPGs. It’s no surprise, then, that Final Fantasy 16 has its own New Game Plus mode, which is a great addition. This mode doesn’t just increase the difficulty level, but also makes significant changes to Clive’s gear and stats, providing players with a strong reason to play through the game again.

One of the most concerning things about any New Game Plus mode is the possibility of losing progress, such as levels, equipment, or skills. Therefore, players are eager to know what they can expect from Final Fantasy 16’s New Game Plus mode and what carries over. In a New Game Plus playthrough, Clive’s gear, abilities, and level will all carry over, meaning that nothing is lost. This can make a standard playthrough very easy, which is why the developers decided to introduce a new mode.

In addition to the Story Focused and Action Focused options, players who have already completed the game can choose Final Fantasy Mode, which comes with significant changes. In this mode, enemies are much stronger, and some are replaced with entirely different ones. Clive’s maximum level increases from 50 to 100, and all upgradable gear pieces will have their max levels increased from +2 to +4. Eikonic Weapons can also be strengthened, and Clive can craft the Ultima Weapon, which is the most potent weapon in Final Fantasy 16.

A New Game Plus playthrough of Final Fantasy 16 takes around 35 hours, which is similar to a standard playthrough. However, players who have already seen all the cutscenes may choose to skip them, reducing the total playtime to under thirty hours. Completing certain side quests and Notorious Mark hunts is necessary to craft the Ultima Weapon, so engaging with the game’s side content can make a difference.

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available on the PlayStation 5.

New Game Plus mode is now pretty common in modern video games, particularly when it comes to RPGs. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise to learn that Final Fantasy 16 has one, and it’s a pretty good one, at that. Rather than simply amp up the difficulty, the mode also makes a few key changes to Clive’s gear and stats, providing players with plenty of incentive to dive back in for another playthrough.

As with a standard playthrough of Final Fantasy 16, players can expect their New Game Plus run to last around 35 hours. That said, having seen all of the cutscenes once already, they may opt to skip them during subsequent runs, which should bring their total playtime down below the thirty-hour mark. Whether or not they engage with any of the game’s side content can also make a difference, with certain side quests and Notorious Mark hunts needing to be completed before players can craft Ultima Weapon.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
