Genshin Impact Dev is Cracking Down on Leakers

HoYoverse, the developer behind popular games Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, has recently come forward with a statement about their plans to take action against excessive leaks of in-development content. Since its launch in late 2020, Genshin Impact has become a worldwide sensation and one of the most popular free-to-play games on the market, even rivaling industry giants such as Sony. However, with the game’s success comes the downside of rampant leaks from members of the fanbase.

As the popularity of Genshin Impact grew, so did the community of leakers sharing early information. While the game has seen characters teased and hinted at multiple patches in advance, recent years have come with even larger batches of internal data leaked. In 2023, a massive leak revealed a significant amount of the studio’s plans for Genshin Impact‘s upcoming Fontaine region. Now, HoYoverse is looking to take action against those who share confidential information and use third-party software.

In an official statement, HoYoverse has announced their plans to take legal action against those who reveal \”undisclosed information\” from the company, as well as reinforcing their \”zero tolerance\” policy towards leaks. The developer is also taking increased action against users operating private servers and creating in-game cheats for Genshin Impact. The statement concluded with their intent to continue cracking down on the \”gray areas of the industry\” with regard to leaks.

This is not the first time that HoYoverse has encountered legal trouble due to leaks. Earlier this year, the studio’s legal team issued a subpoena to Twitter, requesting the social media platform to disclose identifying information for multiple Genshin Impact leakers. HoYoverse had previously pursued legal action against Ubatcha, a prominent Genshin Impact leaker, and the \”Wangsheng Funeral Parlor\” Discord server which had become a popular hub for leakers sharing in-development information about the game.

As information about HoYoverse’s games continues to ramp up, the developer has announced increased efforts to curb the flood of leaks. Honkai: Star Rail has also seen the emergence of a similarly robust community of leakers, with many of the game’s upcoming characters being revealed early. Leaks have even begun to hint at other projects from the developer, such as an Animal Crossing competitor. While HoYoverse looks to shut down leaks, the Genshin Impact leaker community has proven to be a persistent issue.

Genshin Impact is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Switch version in development.

A recent statement from Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse has revealed that the developer is looking to crack down on the game’s excessive leaks. Since the launch of the studio’s flagship RPG in late 2020, the game has grown into an international phenomenon and one of the most popular free-to-play titles in gaming. HoYoverse’s beloved franchises would see massive success that even rivals that of gaming juggernauts like Sony. However, along with the game’s popularity, leaks from in-development content have run rampant among the fanbase.

The overwhelming popularity of Genshin Impact would lead to the foundation of a massive and constantly growing community of leakers sharing early information. While Genshin Impact has typically seen characters teased and hinted at multiple patches in advance, recent years have come with even larger batches of internal data leaked. 2023 has already brought a massive leak revealing much of the studio’s plans for Genshin Impact‘s upcoming Fontaine region. Now, HoYoverse is looking to retaliate against leakers sharing confidential information, as well as cracking down on third-party software.

An official statement from HoYoverse has revealed the developer’s intent to crack down on leaks sharing private information from its multiple games. The statement suggests the developer is prepared to take legal action against users revealing “undisclosed information” from the company, reinforcing its “zero tolerance” policy towards leaks. The developer also suggests it is taking increased action against users operating private servers for the game, as well as those creating in-game cheats for Genshin Impact. HoYoverse concluded with its intent to continue cracking down on the “gray areas of the industry,” with regard to leaks.

The newest anti-leaking initiative from HoYoverse would not be the first time the Genshin Impact dev has found itself embroiled in legal battles with leakers. The studio’s legal team would issue a subpoena to Twitter earlier this year, requesting that the social media disclose identifying information for multiple Genshin Impact leakers. The subpoena would not be the first of its kinds as HoYoverse had previously pursued legal action against prominent Genshin Impact leaker Ubatcha and the “Wangsheng Funeral Parlor” Discord server. The server had become a popular hub for leakers sharing in-development information about Genshin Impact.

HoYoverse’s increased efforts to curb the flood of leaks comes as new information about its several games has ramped up throughout recent months. Honkai: Star Rail‘s launch has seen the emergence of a similarly robust community of leakers to Genshin Impactwith many of the game’s upcoming characters being revealed early. Leaks have even begun to hint at other projects from the developer, recently revealing HoYoverse is potentially developing an Animal Crossing competitor. While HoYoverse looks to shut down leaks, the Genshin Impact leaker community has time and time again proven to be a thorn in the developer’s side.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
