The villainous alter ego of Green Lantern, Parallax, is making a comeback and he is seeking revenge. According to DC’s September solicitations, one member of the Justice League is in serious danger from Parallax.
DC Comics is getting back to normal after the two-month event, Knight Terrors. All the books that took a break are coming back, including Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse’s Green Arrow. The solicitation for Green Arrow #4 reveals that the nightmares are only beginning for Oliver Queen.

Years ago, Oliver Queen died and was resurrected by his friend, Hal Jordan. But it wasn’t Hal, it was Parallax. And no one thought that there would be a cost! Now Parallax has returned to collect!
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Black Canary’s search for Oliver Queen leads them to a long-lost Green Arrow family member…who isn’t so happy to be found!
The solicitation confirms that Parallax is returning to antagonize Green Arrow and collect on his debt for resurrecting Oliver. The comic’s cover, by Izaakse, shows Parallax looming over Green Arrow while Oliver holds his bow with an arrow ready. It is unclear how Parallax has returned, but he looks just as sinister as ever.
In Green Arrow #100, Oliver infiltrated an eco-terrorist group to stop Metropolis from being bombed, and he sacrificed his life to save the city. Hal Jordan, who was still Parallax at the time, brought Oliver back to life before sacrificing his own life in The Final Night. At the time, it was not known that Parallax was actually the result of Jordan being possessed by a fear entity of the same name. Now, it seems that almost everything during that time was a result of Hal being possessed. If Oliver is fighting the real Parallax, it begs the question: Did Parallax have a long-term plan for Green Arrow?

When Hal Jordan was possessed by Parallax, he had godlike strength and almost complete mastery over the universe. This could explain how Green Arrow is being transported through time and space and manipulated by some unknown force. Is it possible that Parallax has been manipulating Green Arrow from behind the scenes, or is it all part of a bigger plot by an even more sinister being? Fans will have to wait until Green Arrow #4 on September 19th to see what happens when Green Arrow faces off against Green Lantern’s Parallax form.

Fans of Green Arrow may recall that the hero died in a climactic storyline that began in Green Arrow #100. Oliver infiltrated an eco-terrorist group to stop Metropolis from being bombed, an event that led to him sacrificing his life to save the city. Though Oliver had moved to the great beyond, he was brought back to life by his pal, Hal Jordan. Though Jordan was still the villainous Parallax at the time, he took the time to resurrect his friend before Jordan sacrificed his life in The Final Night.
At the time of Oliver’s resurrection, it wasn’t known that Parallax was actually the result of Jordan being possessed by a fear entity of the same name (that retcon wouldn’t be established until years later in Green Lantern: Rebirth). At the time, it seemed that bringing Oliver back to life was simply one final act of goodness before Hal Jordan got himself killed by reigniting the sun. Now it’s known that almost everything in that time was a result of Hal being possessed. If Oliver is indeed fighting the Parallax and it’s not a trick, does this mean Parallax had a long-term plan for Green Arrow?
