How to Complete Blacksmith’s Blues in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16 Side Quest Guide)
Final Fantasy 16 is a game that offers plenty of side quests to keep players engaged and entertained. However, not all of them are worth the time investment. One side quest that stands out as particularly worthwhile is “Blacksmith’s Blues.” This quest offers players a challenging boss fight and the crafting recipe for two of the game’s best mid-game armor pieces.
It’s important to note that “Blacksmith’s Blues” is not for the faint of heart. Clive will face off against a powerful level 28 monster, so players should be prepared before taking on this challenge. However, with the right strategy and a good understanding of the combat system, even those in their low twenties should be able to complete it.
To begin the quest, players should speak with August in the mess area of the Hideaway during the “Here Be Monsters” main story mission. August will explain that Blackthorne has been feeling down since seeing a particularly fine piece of leatherwork. Players should then head to the forge and speak with Blackthorne about the leather cuirass in question. From there, players should make their way to Charon at Charon’s Toll, who will mention that the leatherworker who made the cuirass is currently working on a pair of Griffin hide greaves.
To find the Griffin, players should speak with the little Moogle about it. The Griffin can be found in the Caer Norvent West Gate area of Sanbreque, also known as Dozmare. Players should fast travel to the Lost Wing Obelisk and then leave the settlement via the southeastern exit, following the path toward Norvent Valley. If players have unlocked the Chocobo mount, they can ride Ambrosia through the valley to speed things up. Eventually, they’ll come to Caer Norvent and should follow the outer wall of the castle around to the right until they trigger a cutscene with Dozmare.
The battle with Dozmare is relatively straightforward. Players can avoid most of its attacks by dodging from left to right and hitting the beast with Eikonic Abilities whenever possible. The only attack players need to watch out for is Noble Dive, which can be avoided with an aerial shift strike. After defeating Dozmare, players will receive a piece of Scarletite and a Meteorite. They’ll then be able to speak with the nearby leatherworker, who hands over a piece of treated leather as a way of saying thanks.
Upon completing the quest, players will earn 287 XP, ten Renown, and the Drakeslayer’s Belt Design Draft, which allows them to craft the Drakeslayer’s Belt and Bracelets by visiting the forge. Overall, “Blacksmith’s Blues” is a side quest worth undertaking for the challenge and rewards it offers. Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
There are plenty of side quests in Final Fantasy 16but not all of them are worth the player’s time. “Blacksmith’s Blues” is one of the good ones, though, providing players with a challenging boss fight as well as the crafting recipe for two of Final Fantasy 16‘s best mid-game armor pieces.
It’s worth noting that “Blacksmith’s Blues” sees Clive come up against a powerful level 28 monster, so players should keep this in mind before deciding to take it on. That said, with the right strategy and a decent grasp of the game’s combat system, even those whose level is in the low twenties should be able to complete it.
How to Complete Blacksmith’s Blues in Final Fantasy 16
“Blacksmith’s Blues” first becomes available during the “Here Be Monsters” main story mission as Clive and the Gang are preparing for their trip to Drake’s Breath. It can be triggered by speaking with August, who can be found in the mess area of the Hideaway. Unlike a regular Final Fantasy 16 side quest, this one has a plus symbol in the middle of the green quest marker, indicating that it is an important side quest with a unique reward attached to it.
August will explain that Blackthorne has been feeling down since seeing a particularly fine piece of leatherwork. After accepting the quest, players should head over to the forge and speak with Blackthorne about the leather cuirass in question, then make their way over to Charon at Charon’s Toll. She’ll mention that the leatherworker who made the cuirass is currently working on a pair of Griffin hide greaves. It just so happens that there is a Griffin on the hunt board, so players should head on over to Nektar to find out more.
How to Find the Griffin in Blacksmith’s Blues (Dozmare Location)
Speaking with the little Moogle about the Griffin will reveal that it can be found in the Caer Norvent West Gate area of Sanbreque and that the locals have dubbed it Dozmare. To find the Griffin, players should fast travel to the Lost Wing Obelisk and then leave the settlement via the southeastern exit, following the path toward Norvent Valley. If they have unlocked the Chocobo mount, they’ll be able to ride Ambrosia through the valley to speed things up a little. Eventually, they’ll come to Caer Norvent and should follow the outer wall of the castle around to the right until they trigger a cutscene with Dozmare.
How to Beat Dozmare (Notorious Mark)
The battle with Dozmare is relatively straightforward, as most of its attacks target Clive head-on. As a result, players can avoid taking damage simply by dodging from left to right, hitting the beast with Eikonic Abilities whenever a window to do so presents itself. The only attack that players will really need to watch out for is Noble Dive, but they can avoid this pretty easily too by performing an aerial shift strike while the move is being prepared. This not only allows them to get in a few quick melee attacks while the Noble Dive is charging but also ensures that Clive is nowhere near the blast radius when it is eventually unleashed.
After Dozmare has been slain, players will receive a piece of Scarletite and a Meteorite. They’ll then be able to speak with the nearby leatherworker, who hands over a piece of treated leather as a way of saying thanks. Once he leaves, players can return to the hideaway and hand the leather over to Blackthorne, who’ll quickly realize how it was prepared. The quest will then come to an end, with players receiving 287 XP, ten Renownand the Drakeslayer’s Belt Design Draft for their troubles, the latter of which will allow them to craft the Drakeslayer’s Belt and Bracelets by visiting the forge.
Final Fantasy 16 is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
