Among these quests, there are some that stand out due to their demanding prerequisites and challenging nature. One such quest is “Closing the Book,” which requires players to embark on a tricky collectathon. If you’re finding it difficult to complete this quest in Diablo 4, let me guide you through the process.
How to Successfully Finish the “Closing the Book” Quest in Diablo 4
The most challenging aspect of this quest is locating four small items required to complete the mission. I have provided images of these items below, but before we delve into that, let’s address the prerequisites.
The “Closing the Book” quest serves as the final part of the Desperate Remedies questline. To initiate the quest, you must speak to Elder Lau, who can be found in the Dismal Foothills of the Hawezar region.
The nearest Waypoint is Wejinhani, and Lau is situated to the east of the settlement. This quest will trigger a straightforward search mission where you must interact with corpses in each location. Subsequently, you will be directed towards a nearby Dungeon called Light’s Refuge. Although your quest primarily takes place in the first half of the area, you have the option to explore the rest of the Dungeon if you desire, as it unlocks the Aspect of Bul-Kathos.

Once you have completed the quest, you need to clear out a nearby Stronghold called Eriman’s Pyre, which is a short distance to the east of Wejinhani. Conquer the Stronghold and return to the Waypoint. With all the necessary preparations in place, you can now accept a side quest from Elder Akos, located just south of the Wejinhani Waypoint. He will ask you to escort him to the Stronghold that you have recently liberated, so make your way back there.
At this stage, the entire Stronghold becomes a search area, and your objective is to find four Smoldering Tomes. These items can be quite challenging to locate as they are small and conveniently blend in with the charred earth beneath them. Here are their respective locations; if you cannot spot the Tomes immediately, I recommend patrolling the area on foot at a slow pace. As you draw closer, they will start to emit a shimmering light.

The fourth Smoldering Tome is particularly challenging to find due to its coloration. It is almost invisible unless you approach closely enough for its outline to start shimmering. Once you have acquired all four Tomes, return to the Wejinhani Waypoint and speak to the Elder to conclude the questline.
