How To Farm Ability Points
~ Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Final Fantasy 16 ~ Final Fantasy 16 offers a plethora of combat abilities through the ten Eikons. These abilities cover a wide range of elemental attacks and are both valuable and visually stunning in battle. However, unlocking and utilizing these abilities comes at a cost. After each encounter, players are rewarded with XP, Gil, and Ability Points. Ability Points are essential for unlocking the Eikons’ abilities, so it is important to earn enough of them quickly. Here is everything you need to know about farming ability points.
Equip The Wages Of Warcraft Accessory:
Once you reach the halfway point of the main quest, you will start earning a standard amount of ability points from each encounter. One of the first things you can do at this point is to equip The Wages of Warcraft accessory, which can be obtained after completing the Cid the Outlaw main quest. This accessory can be purchased from Charon’s Toll at the Hideaway for 15000 Gil and sold for 7500 Gil. However, it is recommended to keep it equipped as it increases the number of ability points earned in standard encounters by 20%.
While hunting Bluebirds may initially seem like a waste of time, it is actually an effective method for farming ability points. Bluebirds can usually be found in packs of wild Chocobos and are easily identified by their blue and green plumage. Defeating a Bluebird rewards players with 40 ability points, and this number increases to 48 when The Wages of Warcraft accessory is equipped. To find Bluebirds, players can unlock fast travel via the Obelisk and visit the Royal Meadows Obelisk. From there, they can travel to Northreach, where three Bluebirds can be hunted. After defeating them, players can fast-travel back to the Royal Meadows Obelisk and repeat the process, earning a total of 144 points per visit.
Hyenas are another creature that players should focus on defeating to earn ability points. Each defeated Hyena rewards players with 80 ability points. However, it is important to note that the location of Hyenas is only unlocked in the later part of the game. Hyenas can be found in Kritten Hollow, near Ravenwit Walls. Players can fast-travel to the Ravenwit Walls Obelisk and head directly east towards the coast to find the pack of Hyenas. In addition to ability points, Hyenas also drop Goblin Coins, which can be sold for 800 Gil each.
Reduce Combat Difficulty:
For players who want to make combat encounters easier, selecting the Story-Focused mode will reduce the difficulty without affecting the rewards. Equipping the Timely Rings accessories, such as the Ring of Timely Strikes and the Ring of Timely Evasion, will perform attack combos and dodge attacks automatically. The Ring of Timely Assistance synchronizes Torgal’s attacks with Clive’s, including healing abilities.
Complete Side Quests & Hunts:
Completing side quests and clearing the Hunt Board can also reward players with significant ability points. Side quests can be obtained by talking to NPCs with green exclamation points over their heads. Accessing the Alliant Reports allows for fast travel to the necessary locations to complete the quests. Some side quests will take players to new areas where they can encounter creatures that yield a high number of ability points when defeated. The Hunt Board at Cid’s Hideaway is another source of ability points, with higher-ranked marks offering greater rewards.
Free Cities Of Kanver AP Farm:
A method for farming ability points later in the game involves the Free Cities of Kanver. After unlocking the Arete Stone and completing the Cloak and Dagger and Evenfall quests, players can access the Free Cities of Kanver dungeon. By using the Stage Replay feature of the Arete Stone, players can farm around 50,000 ability points per hour. Simply defeat the first three mobs encountered, leave the area, and return to repeat the fights. Equipping the On Fortune And The Heavens accessory, the Ring of Timely Strikes, and utilizing Eikon abilities can help expedite the fights.
In conclusion, farming ability points in Final Fantasy 16 is crucial for unlocking and utilizing the powerful Eikon abilities. By equipping the right accessories, defeating Bluebirds and Hyenas, completing side quests and Hunts, and utilizing the Free Cities of Kanver AP farm, players can efficiently earn a substantial amount of ability points.
~ Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Final Fantasy 16 ~
Final Fantasy 16 offers an airship full of abilities to use in combat, courtesy of the ten Eikons in play. Covering all the elemental attacks you can dream of, these abilities are invaluable and a spectacle to witness in battle–but they also don’t come cheap.
After each encounter, you’re rewarded with XP, Gil, and Ability Points, the latter of which you need to spend in order to unlock the Eikons’ abilities for use, and it’s handy to earn enough ability points in order to gain these attacks as quickly as you can. Here’s everything you need to know to farm ability points.
Equip The Wages Of Warcraft Accessory
Once you’re about halfway through the main quest, you’ll be earning a standard amount of ability points from each encounter completed, but one of the first things you can do at this point (and possibly the easiest) is to equip The Wages of Warcraft accessory–passed down from combat trainer, Rasset the Younger. This accessory can be identified by its scroll icon in the inventory, and it becomes available after you’ve completed the Cid the Outlaw main quest.
It can be purchased from Charon’s Toll at the Hideaway for 15000 Gil and sold for 7500 Gil, but we recommend you hold on to it to reap its rewards. Once you’ve equipped The Wages of Warcraft accessory, it will increase the number of ability points earned in standard encounters by 20%and it’s a foolproof way to easily earn passive points.
While defeating these creatures may seem like a waste of time, hunting Bluebirds is a staple in farming ability points. Bluebirds can usually be found within a pack of wild Chocobos and these rarities are easily identified by their blue and green plumage–sporting a similar color palette to a peacock.
Hunting Bluebirds is an easy way to farm early on in the game as you’ll be rewarded with 40 ability points for every Bluebird you defeat–and that’s without equipping The Wages of Warcraft accessory. With the accessory equipped, you’ll gather 48 ability pointswhich is a massive increase to the standard 8 points you gather from Chocobos.
All Bluebird Locations
After unlocking the fast travel method via the Obeliskyou’ll be able to visit the Royal Meadows Obelisk and subsequently travel to Northreach. There you will encounter three Bluebirds to hunt, and after they are defeated, you can simply fast-travel back to Royal Meadows Obelisk and repeat the process to farm ability points–we’re counting 144 points per visit.
The first Bluebird near Northreach can be found next to The Trimelle Workshoppe.
The second is near the coast of the Royal Meadows and diagonally across from Baywatch.
Lastly, the third is located east directly below The Penitent’s Gate.
The same farming process can be applied visiting Sorrowise, close to Martha’s Resthowever, the two Bluebirds are more scattered in this areawhich will require more traveling and hunting on your part.
The first Bluebird location is close to Martha’s Rest heading north from Glaidemond Abbey near two pools of water.
The second Bluebird is located further along heading east through the bend directly across from the previous location.
The second creature to keep in your crosshair is Hyena because you can earn 80 ability points for every Hyena defeated. However, it should be noted that the Hyenas’ location does not unlock until the latter part of the game.
Hyenas can be found in Kritten Hollowa location near Ravenwit Wallsand all you need to do is fast-travel to the Ravenwit Walls Obelisk and journey directly east towards the coast to find the pack. In addition to collecting ability points from Hyenas, the creatures will also yield Goblin Coins that you can sell for 800 Gil each to make a bit of extra coin.
Reduce Combat Difficulty
Selecting Story-Focused mode for gameplay will reduce the difficulty of combat when battling these creatures, without it affecting the rewards in the end, by way of the Timely Rings accessories. Equipping the Ring of Timely Strikes will perform attack combos on your behalf and all you have to do is press Square to perform them all.
The Ring of Timely Evasion will allow Clive to dodge attacks automatically without you having to lift a finger. However, not all attacks can be evaded this easily and do require some movement on your part. Lastly, The Ring of Timely Assistance will synchronize Torgal’s attacks with Clive’s without you having to select the command yourself, including the wolf’s healing abilities.
Complete Side Quests & Hunts
If you’re going for full completion of Final Fantasy 16, then you’ll likely already be keen on completing side quests and clearing the Hunt Board. If not, you might want to consider indulging, because a lot of these side missions reward some serious ability points.
You can pick up side quests by talking to any NPC with a green exclamation point over their head and access the Alliant Reports in order to fast-travel to the necessary location to complete it. Several side quests will bring you to new locations in the wild, presenting an opportunity to encounter new creatures that will dish out a lot of ability points when defeated.
Your next side hustle should be the Hunt Board in order to slay Notorious Marks that threaten the safety and people of Valisthea. You can access the Hunt Board at Cid’s Hideawaywhich is unlocked early on in the game after arriving at Cid’s initial Hideaway. All you have to do is head to the location detailed under the Mark’s information and slay the beast in front of you. The higher the mark the creature carries, the higher the ability points will be.
Some of the hardest hunts include Svarog, Behemoth Kingand Pandemoniumso keep an eye out for those being added to the Hunt Board.
Free Cities Of Kanver AP Farm
Thanks to the efforts of YouTuber, Primalliquidwe now know of one ability point farm that unlocks later on in the game, and it’s located within the Free Cities of Kanver. After you unlock the Arete Stone during the Hide, Hideaway main quest early on in the game, your next objective should be to complete the Cloak and Dagger quest as well as the Evenfall quest later on in gameplay, which will unlock the Free Cities of Kanver dungeon.
By unlocking both the Arete Stone and the Free Cities of Kanver, you will then be able to use the former’s Stage Replay feature to get the AP farm going and the content creator claims you can farm around 50,000 ability points per hour. You’ll then want to head to the Free Cities of Kanver via the Arete Stone’s Stage Relay and defeat the first three mobs you encounter. Instead of progressing, you’ll want to leave the area. This will cost you story progression and XP, but you’ll get to keep all of your ability points. All you need to do now is return to the Free Cities of Kanver and repeat the fights again until you have enough ability points.
You’ll also want to equip the On Fortune And The Heavens accessory and the Ring of Timely Strikes on top of the previously mentioned The Wages of Warcraft accessory — and to use the Eikon abilities Flames of Rebirth, Heatwave — and Ignition to get through the fights faster.
