How to Get Every Summon / Eikon in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16 Best Eikons)

Summoning entities, known as Eikons in Final Fantasy 16, have always held significance within the beloved Final Fantasy franchise. In this installment, Eikons are intrinsically linked to their human counterparts, referred to as their Dominants. The game’s playable protagonist, Clive, gradually unlocks the powers of various Eikons throughout the main storyline. There are a total of eight playable Eikons, accompanied by two formidable non-playable enemy Eikons that present unique boss battles.

In a recent story trailer, players were given a deeper understanding of the factions and the role of Nahobino in the post-apocalyptic city of Tokyo. For enthusiasts of Final Fantasy Summons, unlocking every Eikon in Final Fantasy 16 is a relatively straightforward endeavor, as all eight Eikons are encountered naturally within the main story. However, players will often need to overcome battles against the Eikon’s Dominant to gain access to their powers, adding an element of challenge to the process. The effort required is undoubtedly worthwhile for fans of Final Fantasy Summons.

1. Phoenix (Fire):
Phoenix, the Eikon of Clive’s brother Joshua, is the first Eikon players encounter. The “Sunrise, Sunset” main story mission grants access to Phoenix’s Eikonic Abilities. However, players must wait for the “Lost in a Fog” mission to fully test their capabilities in battle.

2. Garuda (Wind):
Garuda, the Eikon of Benedikta Harman, is unlocked during the “Headwind” main story mission. Its formidable wind abilities prove advantageous against aerial foes, while Deadly Embrace can topple even the most formidable adversaries if utilized strategically.

3. Ifrit (Fire):
Clive’s Eikon, Ifrit, makes an appearance in the “Flight of the Fledgling” main story mission. However, players can only unlock all of Ifrit’s abilities during the later “The Meaning of Life” mission. Although Ifrit possesses fewer Eikonic Abilities than other Eikons in Final Fantasy 16, the ability to combine their powers with Phoenix’s abilities through mastery is a substantial advantage.

4. Ramuh (Lightning):
Ramuh, initially Cid’s Eikon, is entrusted to Clive in the concluding moments of the “The Crystals’ Curse” main story mission. Ramuh’s abilities focus on stunning enemies with electric attacks, while his lightning bolts prove devastating under the right circumstances.

5. Titan (Earth):
Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of Titan, is introduced early in the main story. However, players must wait until the “Bolts from the Blue” main story mission to unlock Titan’s powers. Utilizing Titan’s powerful earth-based attacks allows players to pummel their enemies into submission.

6. Bahamut (Light):
Bahamut, one of the most recurring Summons in the Final Fantasy franchise, serves as the Eikon of Dion Lesage, the Crown Prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. Players unlock Bahamut upon completing the “Fire in the Sky” main story mission, granting them the ability to reign destruction from above upon Clive’s adversaries.

7. Shiva (Ice):
Shiva, the Ice Eikon, becomes available after the completion of the “Through the Maelstrom” main story mission. Jill Warrick, a childhood friend of Clive and Joshua and the former ward of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, serves as Shiva’s Dominant. Shiva’s icy abilities provide a versatile toolkit suitable for various situations.

8. Odin (Dark):
The final Eikon unlocked in Final Fantasy 16 is Odin, the Eikon of Barnabas Tharmr, the King of Waloed and a supremely skilled fighter. Players gain access to Odin and his dark elemental abilities during the “The Last King” main story mission.

Additionally, players will encounter two enemy Eikons: Typhon and Titan Lost. Typhon awaits players during the “The Crystals’ Curse” main story mission, while Titan Lost, an Aether-infused variant of the regular Titan Eikon, poses a challenge in the subsequent mission, “Into the Darkness.”

Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively available for the PlayStation 5.

Summons have always played an important role in the Final Fantasy franchise, and this is once again the case in Final Fantasy 16. This time, however, they’re referred to as Eikons and are each tied to a human known as their Dominant, with playable protagonist Clive unlocking the abilities of new Eikons throughout the course of the main story. There are eight of them in total, as well as two non-playable enemy Eikons that serve as special boss fights.

FAQ

Q: How many Eikons are there in Final Fantasy 16?

There are eight unlockable Eikons in Final Fantasy 16 as well as two non-playable enemy Eikons.

Q: Are Eikons like Summons?

Although the Final Fantasy 16 Eikons are a lot like traditional Summons, there are a few key differences, the most notable being that players call upon the abilities of Eikons rather than summoning them to the battlefield.

Q: Can Eikons be used at any time?

Most Eikonic Abilities have cooldowns, so although players will initially be able to use them whenever they like, they’ll need to wait a certain amount of time before they can use them again. There are also certain situations where Clive can transform into Ifrit, but these are all scripted, meaning that players will not be able to choose when they transform.

Q: Are there any missable Eikons in Final Fantasy 16?

Unlike the Aeons in Final Fantasy 10 or the Summons in Final Fantasy 7every Eikon in Final Fantasy 16 is unlocked as part of the main story. As such, there are no optional or missable Eikons in the game.
