How To Get More Batteries

One of the most exhilarating aspects of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the inclusion of a wide array of Zonai Devices that Link can utilize while embarking on his journey through Hyrule, The Depths, and the Sky Islands. These devices serve as invaluable tools in aiding Link to explore new territories within the vast game world.

However, there is a drawback to using Zonai Devices – they require Zonai Batteries to function. Fortunately, the Zonai Battery can be upgraded up to 45 times, but this necessitates the collection of a significant amount of Crystallized Charges in order to reach the maximum potential. To assist you in extending the battery life, we have prepared a comprehensive guide.

Updated by Erin Rice on July 5, 2023, this update provides valuable information on the locations to find Zonai Charges. Additionally, detailed maps of all Yiga Clan Hideout locations, relevant links, and information on the Temple bosses in The Depths have been included.

How to Obtain More Batteries:

To acquire additional Zonai Batteries, you must first obtain Crystallized Charges. These items can be taken to Crystal Refineries where they can be transformed into Zonai Battery Wells. Each Battery contains three wells, and there are a total of eight Batteries available. Each Battery can be upgraded twice, requiring 100 Crystallized Charges per upgrade. Initially, you possess one Battery, allowing you to upgrade it up to 45 times, necessitating a total of 4,500 Crystallized Charges.

Where to Find Crystallized Charges:

Thankfully, finding Crystallized Charges is not an overly challenging task. They can be obtained by trading Zonaite, defeating Yiga hideouts, defeating bosses in The Depths, and challenging the Temple bosses that dwell within The Depths. The majority of Crystallized Charges can be found within The Depths, although there are occasional chests located on the Sky Islands that contain them. For more tips on navigating The Depths, refer to our guide linked here.

Trading Zonaite for Crystallized Charges:

Within The Depths, there are numerous large abandoned mines where Link can trade Zonaite for Crystallized Charges. These mines are conveniently situated in important locations and are easily accessible. The following are the locations of the abandoned mines:

1. Abandoned Hebra Mine (under Rito Village)
2. Abandoned Kara Kara Mine (under Kara Kara Bazaar)
3. Abandoned Gerudo Mine (under Gerudo Town)
4. Abandoned Great Central Mine (under the Temple of Time Ruins on the Great Plateau)
5. Abandoned Lurelin Mine (under Lurelin Village)
6. Abandoned Hateno Mine (under Hateno Village)
7. Abandoned Kakariko Mine (under Kakariko Village)
8. Abandoned Lanayru Mine (under Mount Lanayru)
9. Abandoned Tarrey Mine (under Tarrey Town)
10. Abandoned Eldin Mine (under Goron City)

Each of these mines provides Link with five Large Crystallized Charges (100 Crystallized Charges) in exchange for 15 Large Zonaite (three each). Alternatively, you can trade three Zonaite for a single Crystallized Charge. These shops restock every 24 hours, allowing you to replenish your supplies frequently by staying at an inn or waiting by a fire.

Defeat Yiga Clan Hideouts in The Depths:

While exploring The Depths, it is highly likely that you will come across the Yiga Clan at some point. If you encounter one of their hideouts (usually located in or near the aforementioned abandoned mines), you can find chests containing Large Crystallized Charges. Each of these charges is equivalent to 20 Crystallized Charges. The map provided above displays the locations of each Yiga Hideout, along with their Yiga Schematic for obtaining Autobuilds. Completing the quest “Master Kohga Of The Yiga Clan” will also lead you to various Yiga Clan hideouts within The Depths. It becomes apparent that the Yiga Clan is in search of Crystallized Charges for a significant project, hence their presence in these areas. Make sure to collect the Yiga Schematic for your Autobuild while you’re at it. There are a total of 34 schematics in The Depths.

Fight Overworld Bosses in The Depths:

The overworld bosses in The Depths, such as Frox, King Gleeok, and Lynels, occasionally drop Crystallized Charges that can be used to increase Link’s Battery life. These bosses can be found roaming The Depths, eagerly seeking out adventurers to engage in combat.

Refight the Temple Bosses in The Depths:

Another noteworthy feature while exploring The Depths is the opportunity to refight the four Temple bosses. These bosses have specific spawn points, and after defeating each one for the first time, you will receive a Huge Crystallized Charge. This charge is equivalent to 100 Crystallized Charges (or one Battery Well). Although you can only obtain the chest once, the bosses will respawn after each Blood Moon. Each boss has three different spawn points.

Where to Find Crystal Refineries:

Once you have gathered your Crystallized Charges, you will need to locate a Crystal Refinery. Fortunately, there are three Crystal Refineries situated throughout the game. One is located in the Sky Islands, another in Hyrule, and the third in The Depths.

1. The Great Sky Island – This refinery is situated directly in front of the Nachoyah Shrine. It is the fourth and final Shrine required to enter the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island at the beginning of the game.

2. Lookout Landing – Located just outside the door in Josha’s office, this refinery is adjacent to the Bargainer Statue at Lookout Landing. It is easily identifiable as it is situated on the giant rock formation that fell from the Sky Islands.

3. The Great Abandoned Central Mine – Positioned directly below the Temple of Time Ruins on the Great Plateau, this mine is one of the ten locations where Zonaite can be traded for Crystallized Charges.

Other Methods to Extend Your Battery:

While Crystallized Charges are the sole means of permanently extending your Battery, there are other temporary methods to achieve the same outcome.

Zonai Charges – These items are dropped by various Zonai Constructs found throughout the game. They provide a small boost to your Zonai Battery. Large Zonai Charges can prevent an entire Battery from depleting for a certain period of time. These charges can be incredibly useful when you are in close proximity to your intended destination but are running low on Battery life. They can also be obtained by defeating monsters like the Flux Constructs.

Zonaite Armor – Acquiring the Zonaite Armor set can be quite challenging, as each piece requires completing puzzles in the Sky Islands. However, once you possess the full set, it will significantly extend your Battery life. Although the difference may not be immediately evident, the benefits become apparent once you accumulate a substantial Battery capacity. Enhancing the full set to the second level will further amplify its effectiveness.

In conclusion, by diligently collecting Crystallized Charges, trading Zonaite, defeating Yiga Clan hideouts and bosses, and utilizing Zonai Charges and Zonaite Armor, you can extend the lifespan of your Zonai Battery in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

One of the most exciting things about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the addition of the many different Zonai Devices that Link can use while journeying through Hyrule, The Depths, and the Sky Islands. These devices can help you reach new places as you navigate the massive game.

One downside to Zonai Devices is that they require Zonai Batteries in order to operate. The Zonai Battery can be upgraded 45 times, meaning you need to collect a lot of Crystallized Charges if you want to reach the maximum. Here is a guide to help you learn to extend that battery.

Other Ways of Extending Your Battery

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Zonai Hoverboard

While Crystallized Charges are the only way to permanently extend your Battery, there are other ways to temporarily extend it.

Zonai Charges

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Zonai Charge

Zonai Charges are items that drop from the many different Zonai Constructs roaming around the game. They will add a very small amount of additional Battery to your Zonai Battery. If you use Large Zonai Charges, it will stop an entire Battery from depleting for a certain period of time. They can be useful if you’re close to where you need to be but are running out of Battery. You can also find these items by killing monsters such as the Flux Constructs.

Zonaite Armor

The Zonaite Armor set is a difficult set to get. Each piece requires completing puzzles in the Sky Islands. However, as long as you’re wearing the full set, it will extend your Battery life. It may not seem like it at first, but once you have a lot of Battery, you can tell the difference. Enhancing the full set to the second level will make this work even better than originally.
