How To Use Instagram’s New ‘Notes’ Status Bubbles

Instagram users are excited about trying out the Notes feature recently released by Meta. Instagram is popular because it enables users to connect personally with friends and followers, and Instagram has been teasing new features that allow users to start conversations in new and innovative ways.

Instagram introduced a new, user-friendly, and engaging feature known as Notes. This feature enables users to communicate with others through a short text message that is headlined on a Status Bubble displaying their profile picture. For instance, if someone posted ‘I’m home for the holidays,\’ the Note would appear below their photo. These Status Bubbles can be found in Instagram’s Messenger area, located above the DMs. Users appreciate this feature because it makes discussions more intimate than using the comment feed on a public post.

Using Instagram’s Notes feature is simple. To begin, open the app and click the Messenger icon located at the top right corner. At the top of the menu, users will see Status Bubbles that say \’Leave Note.\’ Click the + symbol to open a new window. The \’Share what\’s on your mind\’ box allows users to type a note up to 60 characters long. For example, ‘What music should I listen to?’ To add some extra flair, users can include an emoji. Before sharing, choose either \’Followers you follow back\’ or \’Close Friends.\’ Once the Note is drafted, click \’Share,\’ and the short message will display above the user\’s profile icon for 24 hours.

Users can respond to Notes by clicking the Status Bubble, and this interaction will be private. While the conversation starts with the Status Bubble, it moves to the DMs with replies. When the text prompt appears, type in the message, and the response will appear in the creator\’s DM. The two users can then continue the conversation further.

The feature has only been available for a short time, but Meta has already expanded its capabilities to allow users to get even more creative with their status updates. In June 2023, Instagram updated Notes to support music clips. Now, users can post a 30-second song preview to their Notes, along with a short caption. In the same place users would go to create a new Note, they’ll now see a music note icon. Tapping this will open Instagram’s music library, from which they can select a song and choose the portion they want to share.
