Immortals of Aveum Could Be a Perfect Source of Inspiration For One Marvel Game

Marvel enthusiasts are currently enjoying a fresh era of video games, and despite a few disappointments along the way, the future looks promising for the comic book franchise in the gaming industry. Titles like “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” and “Marvel’s Wolverine” are on the horizon, bringing excitement to fans. However, while Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy have all had their time in recent video games, there is one magical superhero who truly deserves a chance in the spotlight. The upcoming game “Immortals of Aveum” could be the perfect inspiration for this.

Set in an eternal Everwar, “Immortals of Aveum” showcases a conflict between two factions of powerful sorcerers who are vying for control over the planet’s magic source. In the battle for freedom, players will wield various magical abilities such as strong shields and devastating beams of energy. Visually, these abilities bear resemblance to the magic used by Doctor Strange in Marvel’s universe. While “Immortals of Aveum” will undoubtedly have its own unique identity, it could also lay the foundation for a future Doctor Strange video game.

Despite being Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme for 60 years, Doctor Strange has never received his own video game adaptation, at least not on the same level as Spider-Man or the X-Men. Instead, Doctor Strange has only appeared as a secondary playable character. In the “Marvel Ultimate Alliance” series, he was playable in both the first and third games, showcasing his unique combat style with character-specific abilities. The most recent video game appearance of Doctor Strange was in “Marvel’s Midnight Suns,” which highlighted his flashy magical powers.

Although Doctor Strange may not be the most popular Marvel character, his popularity has soared in the past seven years due to his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The mixed reception of the latest Doctor Strange movie has not dampened his overall popularity. With future appearances in the MCU likely, Doctor Strange’s popularity will only continue to grow, creating the perfect opportunity for a Doctor Strange-focused video game. “Immortals of Aveum” could lay the groundwork for such a game.

Doctor Strange’s combat style, both in the comics and the MCU, involves flashy visuals such as intricate hand movements, glowing projections, and even a trippy mirror dimension that constantly changes. The most common type of magical combat associated with Doctor Strange is the use of magical whips and bolts of energy, which are brightly colored and translucent.

Based on the trailers released so far, it appears that “Immortals of Aveum” incorporates many of these visual elements into its own combat system. The trailers showcase a wide range of spells, from simple magical casts resembling machine gun sprays or shotgun spreads, to magical whips that pull enemies off ledges, to shields in the form of projected runic symbols. All of these spells in “Immortals of Aveum” seem to have been inspired by the pages of a Doctor Strange comic, making it a potential source of inspiration for a future Doctor Strange video game.

Marvel fans are currently enjoying a brand-new era of video games, and though there have been some duds along the way, the future is looking bright for the comic book franchise in the gaming landscape, with titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine well on their way. But while Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy have all had their time to shine in recent video games, there’s one magical superhero that definitely deserves his own chance in the spotlight, and the upcoming Immortals of Aveum could provide the perfect inspiration for it.

Set in an eternal Everwar, Immortals of Aveum pits two factions of powerful sorcerers against one another, with each one fighting for supremacy over the planet’s source of magic. In the fight for freedom, players will wield a bevy of magical abilities, ranging from strong shields to devastating beams of energy, all of which look very similar visually to Marvel’s own magic, primarily used by Doctor Strange. Though Immortals of Aveum is sure to have its own unique identity, it could also end up paving the way for a future Doctor Strange video game.

Despite being Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme for 60 years, Doctor Strange has never really received his own video game adaptation, at least not in the same vein as Spider-Man or the X-Men. Instead, Doctor Strange has only ever appeared as a secondary playable character. One of Doctor Strange’s most iconic video game appearances comes from the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series, where he’s a playable character in both the first and third games in the series, with plenty of character-specific abilities that really show off his unique style of combat. The most recent playable appearance of Doctor Strange in a video game was Marvel’s Midnight Sunswhich again showcased his flashy magical abilities.

While Doctor Strange has never been the most popular Marvel character, his popularity has grown exponentially over the last seven years or so, with his multiple appearances in the MCU making him a household name. And though the last Doctor Strange movie was a bit of a mixed bag for many, it seemingly hasn’t affected the character’s overall popularity. With future appearances in the MCU likely, Doctor Strange is only going to continue to grow in popularity, making it the perfect time for a Doctor Strange-focused video game, one that Immortals of Aveum could lay the groundwork for.

Doctor Strange’s combat style in both the comics and the MCU tends to use a lot of flashy visuals, ranging from intricate hand movements to glowing projections to some more unconventional visuals like a trippy mirror dimension that’s in constant flux. But by far the most common type of magical combat seen in use by Doctor Strange are magical whips and bolts of energy, all of which tend to be brightly colored and translucent.

From the trailers released so far, it seems as though Immortals of Aveum is essentially borrowing a lot of this imagery for its own combat. During the trailers, players see a vast array of different spells used in Immortals of Aveum‘s combat, ranging from simple casts that just look like magical versions of a machine gun spray or a shotgun spread, to magical whips that pull enemies off ledges, to shields that appear in the form of projected runic symbols in front of the player. All of Immortals of Aveum‘s spells look as though they’ve been ripped right out of the pages of a Doctor Strange comic, and it’s exactly this gameplay style that could go on to inspire a future Doctor Strange video game.

Immortals of Aveum will be released August 22 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
