Is Apple TV+ Worth Getting? Pros and Cons, Explained

Every time a new streaming service emerges, the question we ask ourselves is whether we actually need another one. This is while we’re already enjoying our free trial. It seems that the more options we have, the less time we have to explore them. While technology has made our lives easier, there’s no denying that the past was simpler in this regard. When Apple TV+ was launched in 2019, Apple users were thrilled as it was the one thing missing from their universe. However, apart from a few exceptional TV shows and movies, there wasn’t much to watch on Apple TV+. Four years later, that conversation has evolved.

Considering the latest content launched on Apple’s streaming platform, we have prepared a list that contains the latest pros and cons of the service (mostly from the perspective of users who use Apple TV+ from a smart TV). Is Apple TV+ worth the subscription fee? Read below and find out.

Pros:
– Excellent TV Shows: This is a huge plus in our opinion. Apple TV+ has some of the best TV shows, such as the incredibly funny but good-natured Ted Lasso, the cleverly scripted The Morning Show, and the must-watch Shrinking. The production value is very high, and even the ones that have been canceled are worth a single-season binge-watch. Their films are also pretty good, even though there are only a few in their Originals section.

– Great User Interface: With Apple TV+, you feel like you’re in their universe. Everything says Apple, from the fonts to the fluid interface and the features that show up when you select a movie or a TV show. Apple leads the race when it comes to branding and identity, and Apple TV+ is no exception.

– Free Months: Buying some Apple devices entitles you to a couple of free months. Although the subscription fee is relatively low, it’s always great to get something for free.

– Access to VOD: Apple TV+ provides access to VOD content that you can rent or purchase with just a click. Some of the films are even cheaper than those on other services like Prime Video.

Cons:
– Limited Content: Apple TV+ is a relatively poor service in terms of its original catalog size. It’s so limited that you may get through it entirely in a couple of months. While the cost is relatively low compared to other services, it would be disastrous for Apple to increase their prices if they don’t increase the amount of content.

– Confusing User Interface: Although the user interface looks good, it’s terribly confusing. The searching module isn’t easy to manipulate, and the voice search algorithm needs to improve soon. Also, there are no regular “movies or TV shows” buttons to let you select the very important path from the get-go.

– No Profiles: Apple TV+ limits the account to just one profile, which makes sharing a bit inconvenient. From a commercial point of view, it makes sense, but in an ideal setting, you should be able to create profiles.

– Android Device Compatibility: Apple TV+ isn’t available to download and use on non-Apple devices like Samsung cellphones that run on Android’s operating system. Tablets are also a no-no. While they’re pushing to be exclusive, it’s unclear why other cell phones are out of the picture.

In conclusion, with these pros and cons in mind, you can decide whether subscribing to Apple TV+ is in your future.

Every time a new streaming service shows up on our horizon, we ask ourselves the same question: Do we actually need another? This is while we’re already getting our free trial. It seems that the less time we have, the more options we get. Yeah, technology makes our lives easier, but no one can say the past wasn’t more simple in this regard.

When Apple TV+ was launched back in 2019, Apple users were instantly excited. Here was the one thing that their universe was missing. But aside from a couple of very, very good TV shows and films, there wasn’t much to watch on Apple TV+. Four years later, that discussion has evolved.

So, considering the latest content that’s been launched through Apple’s streaming platform, we decided to prepare a list that contains the latest pros and cons for the service (mostly using a perspective from the majority of users: using Apple TV+ from a smart TV). Is it worth paying for Apple TV+? Read below and you’ll see.

Pro – The TV Shows Are Excellent

This one is a huge pro in our opinion. One that when evidenced, could easily cancel the others on the list. We’re talking about shows like the insanely funny but good-natured Ted Lassothe cleverly scripted The Morning Showand the one that should be your next pick, Shrinking. Production value is very high, and even the ones that have been canceled work for a single-season binge-watch. Oh, and their films are also pretty good, even if there are only a handful in their Originals section.

Con – Not As Much Content As Other Services

We’re only referring to Apple Originals. It’s a fairly poor service in regard to their original catalog size. It’s so limited, you may even get entirely through it in a couple of months. The cost is relatively low when compared to others, but given the number of movies and series you can choose from, it would be disastrous for Apple to increase their prices if they don’t increase the amount of content. With the writer strike going on, we don’t see this happening any time soon.

Pro – User Interface Looks Great

With Apple TV+, you feel like you’re inside their universe. At least from an aesthetic perspective, everything says Apple. The fonts, the fluid interface, and the features that show up when you select a movie or a TV show. When it comes to branding and the identity that should come along with it, Apple leads the race. Apple TV+ is no exception to that rule.

Con – User Interface Looks Good, But It’s Terribly Confusing

We get it. Apple has no intention of making its service appear similar to the rest. Nevertheless, this time they should have considered the trends. The searching module isn’t easy to manipulate, and it doesn’t display the regular “movies or TV shows” buttons to let you select the very important path from the get-go. Your only option is to scroll down and try to find something to watch among the very limited options in the interface. The voice search algorithm also needs to improve soon. Again, we tested this using a TV. On an iPhone, it works much better.

Pro – You Get a Couple of Free Months If You Purchase Some Apple Devices

Even so, there aren’t many brands that offer you free months to enjoy their service by buying something directly associated with them. In 2019, you got one year for free, but there were only a couple of shows and movies to watch. Now we only get three months for free, but it should be more than enough to indulge in their small catalog. Bonus: subscribing is very, very easy.

Con – No Profiles, Which Makes Sharing a Bit… Inconvenient

We’re going to be honest. Everyone shares their password, regardless of the service. It’s something that won’t stop any time soon. So Apple’s solution for this “issue” is to limit the account to just one profile. From a commercial point of view, it makes sense. But in an ideal setting, you should be able to create profiles. In Apple TV+, you’re stuck with one. That simply doesn’t make much sense.

Pro – It Provides Access to VOD

Yeah, there’s not much to see in the Apple Originals section. Other services have so much more content. Nevertheless, Apple TV+ gives you access to VOD content that you can rent or purchase with just a click. The best thing is some of the films are actually much cheaper in Apple’s service than in others like Prime Video.

Con – Android Device Compatibility

This one’s a bummer. Apple TV+ isn’t available to download and use in non-Apple devices like Samsung cellphones that run on Android’s operating system. Tablets are also a no-no. We get they’re pushing to be exclusive, but if they already opened up to devices like Roku and Fire TV sticks, how come other cell phones are out of the picture? Is it a technology thing? Would Apple TV+ not look as good in other devices?

With these pros and cons in mind, hopefully, you can now decide if subscribing to Apple TV+ is in your future.
