Jake Owen addresses rumors about Taylor Swift’s song ‘Sparks Fly’

Jake Owen denies being the inspiration behind Taylor Swift’s hit song “Sparks Fly.”

After the release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” the country singer acknowledged that there are theories among Swifties that he is the subject of the 2010 track.

“It’s a great song and the speculation has always amused me,” said Owen, 41, in an exclusive interview with People at the American Century Championship in Nevada.

“I’m sure Taylor probably finds it funny too, but I’m happy to be part of the conversation surrounding it.”

The “Made for You” artist also mentioned that he has known Swift, 33, since she was a young newcomer to the music industry at the age of 16.

“She’s an incredible girl and an incredible artist,” he added. “It’s been amazing to witness her growth as a musician and her rise to become a global phenomenon.”

According to People, Swifties speculated that “Sparks Fly” was about Owen because she mentioned “Portland, OR” in the song’s liner notes, which allegedly alludes to their performance together in the city 17 years ago.

Of course, the truth about the person behind the lyrics may never be revealed as the pop star often keeps her inspirations under wraps.

Last week, Swift caused a stir among fans when she released the song “When Emma Falls in Love” from her latest re-recorded album, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”

Many Swifties suggested that the song was about Emma Stone’s previous relationship with Andrew Garfield. The two were together for four years after meeting on the set of “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012.
