Jennifer Lawrence’s Twilight Audition Was Rejected “Immediately”

Jennifer Lawrence reminisces about the time she auditioned for a role in Twilight and was immediately turned down. This was back in 2008, before Lawrence had made her mark in Hollywood. She had guest-starred on shows such as Monk, Cold Case, and Medium before landing her breakout role in Winter’s Bone.

On an episode of The Rewatchables podcast, Lawrence talked about her experience of not getting the role in Twilight. The Oscar winner shared how challenging it was to be a \”run-of-the-mill actor\” in her early days, which affected her chances of auditioning for the vampire novel adaptation. However, she has no hard feelings about being rejected and is happy with how things turned out. Here’s what Lawrence had to say:

I auditioned for Twilight [and] they turned me down immediately. [Laughs] I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different. I got Hunger Games I think, like, a year later. When you audition when you’re a run-of-the-mill actor… you just get five pages and they’re like, ‘Act monkey.’ When it came out, I was like, ‘Hot damn.’

Lawrence’s experience of auditioning for Twilight is a reminder that actors go through various stages in Hollywood before they make it big. Like most actors, Lawrence’s breakthrough into the movie industry wasn’t instant or dramatic. She faced a few rejections while finding her footing, including missing out on both Twilight and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Although she has since found great success in the industry, she has recently entered a new phase in her career which is marked by a resurgence.

Although Lawrence’s career took off in 2010, she faced some setbacks in the late 2010s. During this period, she starred in several blockbusters, including X-Men: Apocalypse, Passengers, and Dark Phoenix, but many of them underperformed at the box office and received poor critical reception. After Dark Phoenix‘s infamous flop in 2019, Lawrence took a brief hiatus from the Hollywood scene, choosing not to return to acting until she appeared in Netflix’s 2021 movie, Don’t Look Up. Lawrence has since opened up about her break, explaining her dissatisfaction with the quality of films she was starring in and the feeling that everyone was \”sick\” of her.
