John Goodman flaunts weight loss at Monte-Carlo TV Festival

Actor John Goodman has accomplished the goals he set for himself 16 years ago, as evidenced by his recent appearance at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco, where he showed off his 200-pound weight loss. Goodman, who is 70 years old, looked dapper in a fitted navy blue suit jacket paired with beige trousers and a white dress shirt. He completed the red-carpet ensemble with a patterned yellow tie, dark sunglasses, and brown loafers. The actor began his physical transformation in 2007 when he weighed 400 pounds.

Goodman has attributed his weight loss success to moving and exercising, as well as a Mediterranean-style diet that is rich in fish, olive oil, vegetables, nuts, and fruit. He also took at least 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day to increase his baseline fitness. In addition to these changes, Goodman stopped drinking alcohol and hired a personal trainer to guide his physical transformation. “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next,” said Goodman in a 2010 interview with People. “I wanted to live life better.”

Goodman’s weight loss journey began in 2007 when he weighed 400 pounds. He has since lost 200 pounds and has kept it off for years. The “Roseanne” alum has shared that he accomplished his weight loss goals slowly and without resorting to crash diets or other unhealthy measures. “This didn’t happen overnight — it’s been an ongoing process,” said Goodman’s fitness guru, Mackie Shilstone. The Emmy winner has also shared that he learned to control his portions and avoid overeating, as he would often “shove everything” into his mouth.

“In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits,” he told ABC in 2017.

“This time, I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”

The “Roseanne” alum stopped drinking alcohol entirely and hired a personal trainer to keep him moving.

Goodman first revealed he had shed 100 pounds at the “Trumbo” premiere in 2015.

“It was basically just portion control and ‘I don’t need it,’” he explained to AARP in 2018.

“I was just shoving everything into my mouth.”
