Kathryn Dennis reclaims her ‘salacious’ pregnancies with Midge costume

Former cast member of the reality show “Southern Charm,” Kathryn Dennis, embraced her unique pregnancies by attending a Barbie-themed party dressed as Midge, Barbie’s pregnant redheaded friend with freckles. With her iconic red hair, a white minidress, and a crown, the single mother confidently co-hosted the sold-out event at The Refinery Charleston in South Carolina on Saturday. In an exclusive interview with TheFantasyTimes, Dennis explained her choice of costume, stating, “I feel like everyone is doing the typical blond Barbie, which is why I chose Midge—you know, the salacious pregnant girl with red hair—because she’s low-key the star.” She further expressed her desire to stand up for Midge, as she believes that the character has been overlooked for many years.

Dennis, who shares a daughter named Kensington “Kensie” (9) and a son named St. Julien “Saint” (7) with her ex-boyfriend Thomas Ravenel, revealed that preparing for the party made her feel like a child again. She shared, “Especially now that I’m in my 30s, this is such an amazing and nostalgic time for me to experience these things.” The costume held a special meaning for her as it allowed her to reclaim her unique pregnancies and celebrate her journey. Reflecting on the past decade, Dennis acknowledged the ups and downs she faced but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with her roots and celebrate alongside others who can relate.

Dennis’s relationship with Ravenel, who is significantly older than her at 60, created a buzz in their traditional town during the early seasons of “Southern Charm.” The situation intensified when she unexpectedly became pregnant at the age of 22 and gave birth to Saint less than two years after Kensie. However, Dennis believes that society has evolved since then, becoming more inclusive, and she appreciates the shift in pop culture. She stated, “I feel like Barbie is returning at the perfect season of my life, as I’m reminded of how I felt as a child, and that has helped me to make sense of my 20s and ultimately who I am now that I’m in my 30s.”

Regarding her relationship with Ravenel, Dennis mentioned that they are doing what works for them and things are going well. She emphasized her happiness as a mother and her confidence in herself. As she moves forward, she aims to set the best example for her children and inspire them as they gradually learn more about her. In January, Dennis announced her departure from “Southern Charm” after almost ten years on the show. She expressed gratitude for the reality cameras capturing unforgettable moments throughout her journey.

When asked about her current perspective on her experiences, Dennis shared her belief in the power of maintaining a good moral compass and being a good person. She believes that regardless of the challenges faced, as long as one continues to be true to themselves and avoids stooping to others’ levels, they will come out on top—happier and more successful, even if it may not look the same as others’ outcomes.

Despite her mixed feelings about reality TV, Dennis appreciates the ability to connect with and inspire other women, especially those of her generation. She hinted at potential future endeavors, such as creating a self-tanner, her own fragrance, and a line of eyelashes, all with the intention of representing and supporting underdogs. She encouraged her fans to keep going and not be deterred by what others may say.

Sporting her signature red locks, a white minidress and a crown, the single mom held her head high as she co-hosted the sold-out event at The Refinery Charleston in South Carolina on Saturday.

“I feel like everyone is doing the typical blond Barbie, which is I chose Midge — you know, the salacious pregnant girl with red hair — because she’s low-key the star,” Dennis, 31, told TheFantasyTimes exclusively.

The former Bravolebrity — who shares daughter Kensington “Kensie,” 9, and son St. Julien “Saint,” 7, with ex-boyfriend Thomas Ravenel — said getting ready for the big bash made her “feel like a kid again.”

“Especially now that I’m in my 30s, this is such an amazing and nostalgic time for me to experience these things,” she shared.

“With the last decade, there were so many wins and losses and hard things and good things. It’s nice to be able to go back to your roots and celebrate that with everyone else who can relate.”

Dennis’ whirlwind romance with the much-older former politician, 60, was the talk of their traditional town during the early seasons of the show.

The ante was upped after she got unexpectedly pregnant at the age of 22 and went on to welcome Saint less than two years after Kensie was born.

However, Dennis feels that “we’ve evolved” since then to make the world a “more inclusive place,” and she’s grateful that pop culture has followed suit.

“I feel like Barbie is returning at the perfect season of my life, as I’m reminded of how I felt as a child, and that has helped me to make sense of my 20s and ultimately who I am now that I’m in my 30s,” she said.

“Being the fair-skinned, freckled redhead who grew up wanting to be the tan blond girl in school, I finally realized that we are all equal.”

As for her historically contentious relationship with Ravenel, Dennis said the two are “doing what works” for them and that “it’s going well.”

“My kids are happy, and I’m confident in myself as a mom,” she told us. “I’m just gonna keep pushing forward and setting the best example I can for my kids and inspiring them as they slowly learn more and more about me.”

Dennis announced her departure from “Southern Charm” in January after almost a decade on the reality show.

“It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m so lucky to have had reality cameras there, capturing so many moments that I’ll never forget (and a few, even, that I’d like to),” she told us at the time.

We asked the former Bravolebrity how she feels about it all now that some time has passed.

“I feel like when you have a good moral compass, when you’re a good person, no matter what you go through, if you just continue to be a good person and don’t stoop to their level, you’ll come out on the other end,” she shared.

“It may not look like their end, but you’re gonna come out on top — happier and more successful.”

Despite her conflicting feelings about reality TV, Dennis marveled at “the magic” of being able to “touch other women out there, especially our generation.”

She revealed that her possible future endeavors include creating a self-tanner, her own scent and a line of eyelashes, though her desire to “represent all the underdogs” remains unwavering.

“Keep going no matter what people say,” she encouraged her fans.
