Kevin Costner’s estranged wife admits she may not have understood the prenup she signed

Kevin Costner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, is raising doubts about her understanding of their prenuptial agreement signed in 2004. According to TMZ, Costner’s lawyers have filed a new court document questioning whether Baumgartner truly comprehended the agreement. The court document states, “Christine asserts she cannot admit or deny that she understood the Premarital Agreement because she (and apparently all of her attorneys) do not understand the word ‘understand.'” Costner’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, clarified that the word ‘understood’ means to comprehend or perceive the intended meaning of words, as per the dictionary definition provided by Kevin’s counsel. TMZ reports that Baumgartner’s attorney finds the request for clarification on the term ‘understood’ vague and thus, Baumgartner is unable to admit or deny it. The attorney is seeking a response from the judge to determine whether or not Baumgartner truly understood the written contract. This filing came after Baumgartner’s lawyer objected to Wasser’s statement that her client understood the legal effect of the premarital agreement before signing it. Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner in May. A judge has ordered Costner to pay his estranged wife $129,755 per month in child support for their three children, although she initially requested $248,000 per month. If Baumgartner challenges the prenup, she may have to return the $1.5 million given to her by Costner and cover his attorney’s fees. The former couple has been embroiled in a contentious court battle since Baumgartner filed for divorce. The judge also ruled that they must abide by the prenup, which requires Baumgartner to vacate their shared family home. Recently, photos of U-Haul trucks were obtained by TheFantasyTimes, indicating Baumgartner’s relocation from Costner’s Santa Barbara, Calif., home to a smaller property on his estate, in compliance with the prenup. Baumgartner is currently searching for another house but remains in the area to minimize disruption to their children’s lives. Despite the ongoing drama, she was spotted running errands in Santa Barbara with a Prada bag worth $4,800.

Kevin Costner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, is arguing that she may not have understood their prenuptial agreement when he signed it in 2004.

According to TMZ, the “Yellowstone” star’s lawyers have filed a new court document where they asked if the handbag designer comprehend what she actually signed.

“Christine asserts she cannot admit or deny that she understood the Premarital Agreement because she (and apparently all of her attorneys) do not understand the word ‘understand,’” the court docs read, per the outlet.

Costner’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, wrote in the filing, “Christine’s counsel asked for a definition of ‘understood’ and Kevin’s counsel provided the dictionary meaning of the word ‘understood,’ to wit, ‘comprehended or perceive the intended meaning of words.’”

The attorney wants the judge to make Baumgartner’s legal team answer whether or not their client understood the written contract.

Per TMZ, the latest filing came after Baumgartner’s lawyer objected to Wasser stating that her client’s estranged wife “understood the legal effect of the premarital agreement before you signed the premarital agreement.”

Since Baumgartner, 49, filed for divorce in May, the former couple has been involved in a contentious court battle.

In July, a judge ruled that the “Bodyguard” star, 68, to pay his estranged wife $129,755 per month in child support for their three kids— though she originally asked the court for $248,000 a month.

He was also ordered to cover $200,000 in attorney’s fees and $100,000 in forensic costs.

The judge also ruled that the exes had to uphold their prenup, which required Baumgartner to move out of their shared family home.

Last month, TheFantasyTimes obtained photos of U-Haul trucks out of Costner’s Santa Barbara, Calif., home. It was later revealed that she was relocating to a “smaller home” on the “Hidden Figures” actor’s property ahead of her July 31 move-out deadline.

A source told People that the move was “a temporary solution” and Baumgartner was “still looking for another house.”

“She is staying in the area to not disrupt the kids’ lives,” the insider said. “They will be back at school in the fall with their friends.

Baumgartner didn’t let the drama keep her down, as she was recently spotted running errands in Santa Barbara last week wearing a $4,800 ombré Prada bag on her arm.
