Kevin Costner’s ex asks court to not pay actor’s legal fees amid contentious divorce
Christine Baumgartner is reportedly seeking a judge’s denial of ex Kevin Costner’s request to have her contribute to his legal fees during their contentious divorce.
Earlier this month, the “Yellowstone” star was ordered to pay $200,000 in attorney’s fees and $100,000 in forensic costs — a third of which he has reportedly asked his soon-to-be ex-wife to cover.
However, according to filings obtained by Entertainment Tonight on Friday, Baumgartner argued that Costner would not have incurred such substantial legal fees if he had not filed additional motions to have her removed from their shared California mansion.
The former handbag designer filed for divorce on May 1 after 18 years of marriage, and in accordance with their prenuptial agreement, she was given only 30 days to vacate his $145 million estate.
However, the mother of three refused to move out until the end of August because she wanted to have a financial plan in place to ensure she would not be left with no money.
In response, the actor filed multiple motions to expedite her departure by the end of July, rather than waiting for their scheduled court date — which she claimed was the reason for his significant legal expenses.
At the time, Costner had already given Baumgartner over $1.2 million for his prenuptial obligations, including another residence.
He also stated that he was willing to provide her with “$30K per month for a rental house” and “another $10K for her moving costs” as part of his child support if she moved out sooner.
A hearing on the legal fees has been scheduled for August 2 in Santa Barbara.
Now that Baumgartner is finally in the process of moving out, more drama has unfolded, with the “Bodyguard” actor accusing his ex-wife of emptying their house — an allegation she denies.
In response, a judge ordered the model to seek Costner’s permission before removing anything from the house.
Despite her impending move-out date of July 31, Baumgartner has been enjoying her time in Hawaii with the couple’s three children — and one of Costner’s close associates.
The 49-year-old was seen taking a stroll by the ocean with Josh Connor, a California-based financier who is considered one of the actor’s close friends, on Friday.
