Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard slam ‘hostile’ haters over stranded airport drama

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are shrugging off criticism after sharing their travel ordeal at a Boston airport. Two weeks after being kicked out of Logan Airport due to extensive flight delays and eventually finding shelter with acquaintances, the couple responded to accusations that they had lied about all nearby hotels being fully booked. Shepard, 48, told listeners of the “Armchair Expert” podcast on Monday that “everyone knew before us [that their flights were canceled] because they kept canceling ours.” He added, “So by the time we realized, ‘No, this flight isn’t going tonight,’ everyone had already taken the hotel rooms.” While Shepard was “confused” about why someone would be upset about their story, Bell, 43, attributed the controversy to a lack of “emotional and intellectual capacity,” as well as an “addiction to outrage.”

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are defending their account of being stranded at an airport. The couple faced negative comments from hostile individuals last month. Bell blamed the trolls’ addiction to outrage, while Shepard believed the backlash had political motivations. The “Veronica Mars” actress explained, “[People] want to be angry about something. It was anything. It was like, ‘You’re not really being kicked out,’ ‘There were definitely hotels available,’ ‘I can’t believe you spent $600 on pillows.'” Shepard speculated that only a political divide could have resulted in such a hostile and angry response to their Instagram posts documenting the ordeal with their daughters Lincoln, 10, and Delta, 8.

“We have to somehow represent liberals,” he pondered. “And no matter what we do, it would be proof that we’re crazy or stupid or whatever. It felt like there’s something political. I don’t know why people would be so mad unless we just symbolize liberals.” In response, Bell stated that haters lack emotional and intellectual capacity. Regardless of the reason, she added that she doesn’t give any attention or energy to negative comments online. “Ultimately, it’s not about us, it’s about the person making the comment,” said the “Good Place” actress. “I don’t really think about it.”

The couple, who got married in 2013, are accustomed to confronting social media trolls while raising their daughters. They documented their travel mishap with Lincoln and Delta on Instagram in July. In July 2021, Shepard sparked a widespread debate in Hollywood when he discussed not bathing his children every day during a podcast episode with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. Bell later appeared on “The View,” where she revealed that she waits until Lincoln and Delta “smell” before bathing them. This led to confessions about showering habits from Jake Gyllenhaal, Cardi B, and other celebrities. The Golden Globe nominee described the entire debate as a “joke” the following month, stating in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in August 2021 that “people are acting like this is a serious Supreme Court case.”
