Michael Cera reminisces about the moment he almost tied the knot with ex-girlfriend Aubrey Plaza. The former couple, who met on the set of “Scott Pilgrim vs The World” in 2010, almost got married during a trip to Las Vegas, as revealed by Cera in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Michael Cera says he nearly married Aubrey Plaza
The 35-year-old actor disclosed that they had planned to get married in an Elvis chapel and immediately filed for divorce to become each other’s ex-husband and ex-wife at 20 years old. Despite their failed romance, Cera commends Plaza’s recent onscreen success, including her role in “The White Lotus” on HBO.

In 2016, Plaza spoke about their relationship, saying that they still love each other and are really good friends. She described Cera as a funny person with whom she speaks the same language. Plaza secretly married writer and director Jeff Baena in 2021 after working together on several projects, including “Life After Beth” in 2014 and “The Little Hours” in 2017. Cera, on the other hand, tied the knot with Nadine Cera in 2017 and welcomed their first child in early 2022.

Michael Cera has recalled the spontaneous moment he very nearly married Aubrey Plaza.
The exes, who met on the set of their 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs The World,” struck up a relationship during the making of the film.
And Cera revealed that the pair almost made their romance legally binding during a Las Vegas trip.
“Well, we were driving through Vegas and we almost just spontaneously took a detour and got married,” the 35-year-old told Rolling Stone.
When asked if the pair had planned on an “Elvis chapel situation” — a phrase used to refer to a quick and cheap wedding with an Elvis Presley impersonator officiating — Cera said yes.

“Like something where you get a certificate,” he clarified. “I think the idea was to then get a divorce right away, so we could call each other ‘my ex-husband’ and ‘my ex-wife’ at like… 20 [years old].”
Even though their ill-fated romance ultimately crumbled, Cera still praises his ex-girlfriend’s recent onscreen success.
Plaza has been adding some impressive projects to her resumé since starring in “Scott Pilgrim vs The World,” including “Parks And Recreation,” and more recently, HBO’s “The White Lotus.”

“I mean, she’s always been so committed to everything that she does,” Cera told the outlet of Plaza. “It’s not surprising to me that she’s doing really well.”
“The thing that’s surprising to me is how much she’s producing and putting together projects. It’s amazing. Ingrid Goes West? That was so great,” the “Superbad” actor added.
For her part, Plaza spoke of her relationship with Cera back in 2016, saying the pair “love each other.”

“We’re still really good friends,” she said. “He’s just a weird little freak and we speak the same language. He’s one of the funniest people I know.”
Plaza went on to secretly marry writer and director Jeff Baena in 2021.
