Mortal Kombat 1 Bringing Back Feature That Started in MKX

Recently, during the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test, players had the opportunity to test the game and discover previously unannounced features, such as the Quitality. After many months of speculation, with fans assuming that the next game from NetherRealm Studio would be Mortal Kombat 12, Ed Boon and the development team surprised fans by introducing a rebooted franchise with Mortal Kombat 1.

In this new timeline, Fire God Liu Kang has reshaped the world and, to the surprise of many, classic rivals Sub-Zero and Scorpion are now brothers. Alongside a brand-new story, Mortal Kombat 1 features new mechanics, such as Kameo fighters that can be called upon during a match to assist the player with throws, counters, combo extenders, and even Fatalities. However, players have also discovered previously unannounced features making a comeback as well.

The Mortal Kombat 1 stress test gave players the opportunity to test the limited roster of characters and Kameo fighters and mess around with the various “-ality” systems in the game, such as the iconic fatality moves. However, players also discovered that the Quitality mechanic has also returned for this latest iteration.

The Quitality mechanic was originally introduced in 2015’s Mortal Kombat X and results from online Mortal Kombat matches when one player decides to leave mid-match. Not only does the other player get the victory, but their opponent’s character explodes, adding a gory finish to the match. Players have been discovering all the new gory animations added to Mortal Kombat 1 as players exit matches before the end of the round.

As the first Mortal Kombat 1 comes to a close, it appears it has been a big success for NetherRealm Studios, with high demand from fans. In fact, it was in such high demand that it even caught the attention of scalpers who posted Mortal Kombat 1 stress test access keys online for ridiculous prices. Codes were being sold on sites like eBay for a variety of prices ranging from $180 to over $800.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
