My Adventures With Superman Producer Teases Unexpected Villains

My Exciting Journeys With Superman executive producer Brendan Clogher elucidates the rationale behind their decision to postpone Lex Luthor as the primary adversary in season one. This fresh animated series chronicles the early days of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen as interns at the Daily Planet. Clark is also in the nascent stages of transforming into Superman, striving to maintain a delicate balance between his dual lives and keep his heroic deeds concealed. The series introduces beloved Superman characters in innovative ways.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about My Exciting Journeys With Superman, Clogher unveiled the inspiration behind the decision to delay the introduction of Superman’s infamous arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. He expounded on how this choice compelled them to think outside the box. Clogher also tantalized viewers with hints about their unconventional approach to villains in the new series. Explore Clogher’s complete quote and interview below:

Brendan Clogher: In some of the other interviews, we brought [up] the fact that execs give us good notes, which is nice. And one of the very early ones was we were sort of told to hold off on Lex Luthor for a bit. So it forced us to dig in and be like, “Who do we have available to us that can create sort of a good counterpoint to our Clark Kent? Who is someone who cares about people?” And as you saw, we found a way to do that with certain villains that reflect some of our real world modern villains. I think is really what we’re trying to do.

Why it Makes Sense to Delay Lex Luthor in My Exciting Journeys With Superman

An iteration of Superman devoid of Lex Luthor seems unfathomable, but it appears that the first season of My Exciting Journeys With Superman will precisely be that. Nevertheless, deferring the introduction of Superman’s greatest adversary may be the optimal choice for the animated series as it delves into the hero’s early days. My Exciting Journeys With Superman explores Clark’s quest to establish himself as the hero of Metropolis, and although he may attract the attention of Lex Luthor, it makes sense that the genius would not yet be consumed by his animosity, fear, and jealousy.

This decision also grants the creators an opportunity to introduce other Superman adversaries and expand the world of My Exciting Journeys With Superman beyond his most iconic foes. It also allows Clark to mature into his role as Superman, acquiring the confidence and wisdom required to be a fully developed hero when he finally encounters Lex Luthor. Furthermore, it could lay the groundwork for the renowned friendship that sours as Lex’s fixation on the Man of Steel becomes dangerously all-consuming.

My Exciting Journeys With Superman‘s inaugural season can focus on the growth of Clark, Lois, and Jimmy as their bond strengthens, their careers take flight, and Clark learns to embody the hero within. If Lex Luthor were to be introduced in the first season, it would likely overshadow all other adversaries and relationships in My Exciting Journeys With Superman. By delaying the introduction of Lex Luthor, the writers and producers can expand the world, enhance the dynamic between the trio, and fully develop Superman as a hero.

My Adventures With Superman executive producer Brendan Clogher explains why they decided to hold off on Lex Luthor as the main villain in season one. The new animated series follows Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen during their early days at the Daily Planet as interns. Clark is also in the early days of becoming Superman, trying to balance both lives and keep his heroics under wraps. The series brings in classic Superman characters but introduces them in new ways.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about My Adventures With SupermanClogher revealed what inspired them to wait to introduce Superman’s most infamous nemesis, Lex Luthor. He explained how this decision pushed them to think outside the box. Clogher also teased their surprising takes on villains in the new series. Check out Clogher’s full quote and interview below:

Why it Makes Sense to Wait on Lex Luthor for My Adventures With Superman

My Adventures With Superman fight

A Superman series without Lex Luthor is hard to imagine, but it seems the first season of My Adventures With Superman will be exactly that. However, holding off on Superman’s greatest nemesis may be the best decision for the animated series because it explores the early days of the hero. My Adventures With Superman digs into Clark establishing himself as Metropolis’ hero, and while he may gain the attention of Lex Luthor, it makes sense that the genius wouldn’t be consumed by his hatred, fear, and envy quite yet.

This decision also gives the creators an opportunity to bring in other Superman antagonists and build out the world of My Adventures of Superman beyond his most iconic adversaries. This also gives Clark the opportunity to grow into his own as Superman, gaining the confidence and wisdom he needs to be a fully fleshed-out hero when he finally meets Lex Luthor. It could also set up the famous friendship that sours as Lex’s obsession with the Man of Steel grows dangerously all-consuming.

My Adventures With Superman’s first season is able to focus on Clark, Lois, and Jimmy as their friendship develops, they take the first step in their careers, and Clark learns to be a hero. If Lex Luthor were to be introduced in the first season, that would likely overtake every other antagonist and relationship in My Adventures With Superman. By waiting to bring in Lex Luthor, the writers and producers can build out the world, the dynamic between the trio, and Superman as a hero.
