Nia Long files for full physical custody of son Kez, claims ex Ime Udoka ‘failed’ to provide support

Nia Long is seeking legal and physical custody of her 11-year-old son, Kez, whom she shares with Ime Idoka. In court documents obtained by TheFantasyTimes, the actress from “Best Man” claimed that the NBA coach has neglected to provide support for their son since their separation. However, Long, who is 52 years old, does want her former fiancé to have “reasonable visitation” that is in the best interest of their child. The paperwork was filed on August 14th in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, almost a year after news broke about Udoka’s affair with a staff member from the Boston Celtics.

Three months after the affair became public, the couple decided to end their 13-year relationship. After the split, Long revealed that Kez was having a difficult time coping with the situation. In an interview with The Cut in February, she said, “My main focus right now is my youngest son because he’s having a really tough time. I may have some things that I’m suppressing, but I have to prioritize taking care of him first. That’s my priority. It’s natural.”

Udoka, who is 45 years old, was fired from his role as a coach in the same month due to his romantic involvement with the team’s service manager, Kathleen Nimmo Lynch. This news was particularly hard for Kez to handle. “He still has moments where it’s not easy for him,” Long shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “The most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public,” added the star of “Boyz n the Hood.”

Despite being caught off guard by the cheating scandal, Long, who is also the mother of Massai II, 22, from her previous relationship with Massai Dorsey, has chosen to take the high road. The former couple welcomed their son in 2011. Instagram/iamnialong

In April, the star of “You People” posted a cryptic message on her Instagram about moving on. “The best revenge is no revenge. Move on. Be happy,” read the quote displayed on a black screen. Udoka and Long’s relationship began in 2010, and Kez was born the following year. The athlete proposed in 2015 by getting down on one knee.

Three months after the affair made headlines, the pair decided to call it quits after 13 years together.

Following their split, Long admitted that Kez was having a “really tough time” coping with the situation.

“My only focus right now is my youngest son ’cause he’s having a really tough time,” the actress told the Cut in February. “I’m sure I have some things that I’m suppressing, but I have to do that to take care of him first. That’s the giving. It’s natural.”

“I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public,” the “Boyz n the Hood” star added.

Despite being “blindsided” by the cheating scandal, Long — who is also the mother of Massai II, 22, with ex Massai Dorsey — has seemingly taken the high road.
