Nicole Kidman defends wearing Miu Miu miniskirt for Vanity Fair
Nicole Kidman stands by her decision to wear that controversial Miu Miu miniskirt in a photoshoot for Vanity Fair’s 2022 Hollywood Issue.
“I make unconventional, daring choices,” the actress recently told Stellar magazine (via People). “I refer to them as ‘teenage choices’ because I never consider the consequences.”
Kidman explained that she prefers not to let fear or worry dictate her choices. Instead, she simply thought, “Oh, I’m going to wear that; it reminds me of my school uniform. … I’d love to wear that.”
Kidman, aged 56, revealed that she doesn’t pay much attention to the online backlash her outfit received in February 2022.
“It would hinder me from doing what I want,” she said. “I try to maintain a sense of freedom in my choices; otherwise, I would become closed off and unable to move forward.”
The Oscar winner acknowledged that she was the only one who chose the daring look and takes full responsibility for it.
“It was fun,” she recalled. “That was my choice. And yeah, I own it. I’m accountable. Whatever.”
Kidman expressed a similar sentiment in June 2022 when defending the outfit to Vogue Australia. She mentioned that she “begged” to wear it, even though she was offered an alternative.

Kidman, 56, shared that she does not “really want to know” about the online backlash stirred up by her pleated bra top, low-slung skirt, knee socks and loafers in February 2022.
“It will stop me doing what I want to do,” she said. “I really try to stay free in the choices because otherwise, before you know it, you’re just closed off and you can’t step anywhere.”
The Oscar winner acknowledged that “nobody else” chose the daring look and she takes “responsibility” for it.
“It was fun,” she recalled. “That was my choice. And yeah, I own it. I’m accountable. Whatever.”
