In Tokyo on Tuesday, North West, the eldest child of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, made a fashionable statement by wearing an orange-and-blue striped polo shirt that closely resembled the one her father wore during his appearance on MTV’s “TRL” in the early 2000s. North added a modern twist to the top by pairing it with Rapunzel-length braids, giving it a fresh update for 2023. The 10-year-old showcased the Ralph Lauren shirt, which costs $138, in a new TikTok video featuring her mom and friends during their Japanese vacation. She wore a button-down underneath, just like her dad did back in 2004. North completed her outfit with cropped jeans, a long chain necklace, and her floor-length braids pulled up into an updo as she sang and danced to her dad’s duet with Estelle, “American Boy.” Meanwhile, in 2004, Kanye West styled the same shirt with a green button-down and a large gold necklace. In the TikTok video, North and her mom can be seen grooving along to “American Boy.” Kim Kardashian joined the fun, wearing a black crop top, leather pants, and sneakers as she danced down a Japanese street. This is not the first time North has taken inspiration from her dad’s style. She previously wore one of his old jackets at Paris Fashion Week in July 2022, sporting a bright blue style from Kanye’s defunct streetwear label, Pastelle. The jacket was originally worn by Kanye at the 2008 American Music Awards. Recently, North has been sporting extra-long braids, which she showcased on social media during her trip to Tokyo with her mom. Kim Kardashian shared a video on Instagram of her daughter’s super-long pink-and-black braids, referring to them as “double dutch braids.” In another TikTok video, Kim demonstrated that the braids were perfect for a game of skipping rope, using North’s flowing hair. In the clip, the eldest Kardashian-West child walks around in a blue kimono while her hair drags along the floor, with her proud mom exclaiming, “look at these braids!” and referring to them as “double dutch braids.”
