The widely circulated video clip of Robert J. Oppenheimer captures him stating, “We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, and a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.'”
Given the role’s requirement to reference the Bhagavad Gita, Cillian Murphy, portraying Oppenheimer, has also delved into the study of the Hindu scripture. “I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation for the film. I found it to be an incredibly exquisite text. It was highly inspirational. It provided solace to him, which he truly needed. Throughout his life, it served as a great source of comfort,” he admitted.
