Overwatch 2 Bug May Be Keeping Some Players from Unlocking

Players of Overwatch 2 have reported a glitch that is preventing them from unlocking new characters during gameplay. This is not the first time that a bug has affected the diverse roster of Overwatch 2.

Since its early access release last year, Overwatch 2 has received mostly positive feedback, although its review scores are lower than its predecessor, it has managed to attract a larger player base in its first month. It has been recognized for its continuation and evolution of the previous game’s gameplay, but it has also faced criticism. However, every game has its faults, whether it be technical issues or bugs that were missed during playtesting.

One Reddit user, Shaman1996, has pointed out a glitch that is preventing them from unlocking the Season 2 character, Ramattra. The character is locked behind a series of challenges, such as winning 35 matches as a Tank (or any randomly selected hero), killing three bots with the Void Accelerator, and practicing various moves in training mode. The user had completed most of these challenges, but the game would not mark them as accomplished, despite having exceeded the minimum threshold for multiple victories.

When asked if this glitch was a common occurrence, one commenter noted that they had similar difficulty unlocking the Season 1 character, Kiriko. Many other commenters quickly blamed Blizzard for the bug, advising the OP to file a complaint. Several replies suggested that Ramattra was inaccessible because his grinding challenge had not been activated, which is the only way to mark them as completed.

Progression gating is rarely enjoyable in video games, and it can be especially frustrating when it comes in the form of a glitch. Assuming this is a genuine glitch and not a mistake on the user’s part, it is one of several that Overwatch 2 players have experienced.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

A glitch in Overwatch 2 may be preventing players from unlocking new characters in gameplay. It’s not the first time a bug has affected the highly eclectic Overwatch 2 roster.

Since it dropped in early access last year, Overwatch 2 has received mostly favorable feedback, gaining lower review scores than its 2016 predecessor but garnering a larger player base in its first month. It has been praised for its continuation and evolution of the previous game’s gameplay, but there’s been plenty of criticism as well. Regardless of public opinion, no game is without fault, whether it be in the form of technical issues or bugs that flew under the radar during playtesting.
