Overwatch 2 Dev Gives Update on When a Sombra Rework Could Be Coming

Overwatch 2 Dev Gives Update on When a Sombra Rework

Overwatch 2 has confirmed that a rework for the hero Sombra will be introduced after Season 6. While this may not occur as quickly as some players would like, they can be assured that Overwatch 2 will make changes to the controversial DPS hero before the year ends.

Previously, lead hero designer Alec Dawson of Overwatch 2 confirmed that a Sombra rework was in progress. After the rework, players can expect the hero to be more lethal, although she will have fewer escape options.

Executive producer Jared Neuss has now provided a more specific timeline for the Sombra rework in Overwatch 2. During an interview with Emongg, an Overwatch 2 content creator on Twitch, Neuss confirmed that the changes were currently being worked on. However, he also mentioned that they would not be implemented in Season 5 and probably not at the start of Season 6 either. Therefore, it is highly likely that the changes to Sombra will be introduced before or alongside Roadhog’s rework in Overwatch 2 Season 7.

Since her introduction early on in the lifespan of Overwatch 1, Sombra has been a highly debated hero. Apart from her ultimate ability, Sombra lacks a reliable source of damage outside of her primary fire. However, her ability to hack enemies and prevent them from using their abilities, as well as her ability to quickly traverse the entire Overwatch 2 map, make her a frustrating opponent. Nevertheless, balance adjustments over the years have made it challenging for Sombra to carry her team to victory unless she is utilized by skilled players.

Overwatch 2 is currently halfway through Season 5, and Season 6 will commence in approximately one month. Season 7, along with the Sombra rework, can be expected no later than early October.

In the meantime, Overwatch 2 is preparing for Season 6, which is titled “Invasion.” This season will bring the largest seasonal content update in the history of Overwatch. Players can anticipate the introduction of the Flashpoint PvP game mode, a new healer hero, and the highly anticipated PvE modes.

Despite this, players still have over a month to enjoy Season 5. The high-fantasy theme has brought charming cosmetics to collect and an engaging story to unlock through the Battle Pass. Additionally, various new game modes, including the upcoming Overwatch 2 Mischief and Magic scavenger hunt mode, will ensure that players have plenty to do in the near future.

Overwatch 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Overwatch 2 Dev Gives Update on When a Sombra Rework

Overwatch 2 just confirmed players can expect a Sombra rework sometime after Season 6. Though that may not be as soon as some players would hope, they can at least expect Overwatch 2 to change the controversial DPS hero before the end of the year.

Previously, Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson confirmed a Sombra rework was on the way. After the rework, players can expect the hero to be way more lethal, but at the cost of less robust escape options.

Now, executive producer Jared Neuss has given a more concrete timetable on when the Overwatch 2 hero could receive her rework. During an interview with Overwatch 2 content creator Emongg on Twitch, he confirmed the changes were in progress. However, he also said they would not be in Season 5, and probably not by the start of Season 6 either. This means there is a good chance the changes to Sombra will come before or alongside Roadhog’s rework in Overwatch 2 Season 7.

Since her introduction early on in Overwatch 1’s lifespan, Sombra has been a contentious hero. Besides her ultimate, Sombra does not have a reliable source of damage outside her primary fire. However, her ability to hack enemies to make them unable to use abilities, and slip away across the entire Overwatch 2 map with the press of a button, makes her a nuisance to play against. Even so, balance changes over the years have made it hard for Sombra to win a game for her team unless she’s used by expert players.

Overwatch 2 is about halfway through its cycle for Season 5. In about a month, Overwatch 2 will begin Season 6, with Season 7 being roughly two months after. That means players can hopefully expect Season 7–and the Sombra rework–no later than early October.

In the meantime, Overwatch 2 is gearing up for Season 6. Dubbed Invasion, Season 6 is the largest seasonal content update in Overwatch history. The game is receiving the Flashpoint PvP game mode, a new healer hero, and the long-awaited PvE modes.

That said, players still have over a month to enjoy Season 5. The high-fantasy theme has given players some charming cosmetics to collect, as well as a fun story to unlock through the Battle Pass. Additionally, several new game modes, including the upcoming Overwatch 2 Mischief and Magic scavenger hunt mode, will make sure players have plenty to do in the near future.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
