Jonny Bairstow ruled out of ipl 2023
The English wicketkeeper-batter for Punjab Kings, Jonny Bairstow, will not participate in the IPL 2023 as he works to recover from the freak injury he sustained in September. The 2023 season will see Matthew Short, an uncapped Australian batsman, take over for Bairstow, according to media sources.
After starting to train again in late February as part of his rehabilitation, Kings, through the BCCI, had been waiting for Bairstow’s precise fitness status from the ECB. The BCCI reportedly told Kings on Saturday to move forward with the replacement, and the team confirmed the news later that day. Having Jonny Bairstow ruled out of IPL 2023, things will become tricky for the whole Team.
Last week, Bairstow began practising batting in the Yorkshire nets. It is believed that he will try to play a few County Championship games in May, maybe while keeping wicket, in order to be fully ready for England’s next Test against Ireland at Lord’s on June 1. The ECB is pleased with Bairstow’s development and is optimistic that he will be ready to play a significant role in the Ashes, which begin on June 22.
Prior to the third and final Test of England’s home series against South Africa on September 2, Bairstow fractured his left leg and dislocated his ankle. When he slipped while playing golf with pals, he received several fibula fractures that necessitated the insertion of a plate during surgery a few days later. He also sustained ligament damage.

Since then, he has missed every match England has played in cricket, including the T20 World Cup, when he was scheduled to open with his skipper Jos Buttler. Along with the ILT20, where he was scheduled to play for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, he also missed visits to Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, and South Africa.
When healthy, Bairstow will return to the team right away, according to England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum. However, finding a position for him will be challenging given that Harry Brook, who took over at No. 5 and has four hundreds in his first six Tests, has had an outstanding start to his international career.
Although Zak Crawley and Ben Foakes seem to be the team’s most vulnerable players, leaving either out would force a reorganisation of the lineup, and McCullum has cautioned against “crowding people in.”
Bairstow is regarded as one of the best all-format batters in the world, thus his absence will undoubtedly affect Kings’ approach. In the most recent IPL, Bairstow scored two half-centuries and 253 runs in 11 innings, averaging 23.00 and striking out at a rate of 144.57. Original interpretation: Bhanuka Rajapaksa is given a chance. Jonny Bairstow ruled out of IPL 2023, PBKS Team was expecting Bairstow to recover and be available for this season.
This is Short’s first time participating in the IPL. In the most recent Big Bash League, he opened for Adelaide Strikers and made 458 runs, the second-highest total in the competition, at an average of 35.23 and a strike rate of 144.47, earning him the title of Player of the Tournament.
His most impressive effort was an unbroken 100 in a 230-run chase to defeat the Hobart Hurricanes. Short is a skilled fielder and an effective off-spinner.
Due to Jonny Bairstow ruled out of IPL 2023, now all the Fantasy Cricket players planning to consider Jonny Bairstow in their teams, will definitely have to re-think on whole strategy.
In total, he got 11 wickets at an economy of 7.13 while bowling in the BBL powerplay while maintaining a positive attitude. In the second half of Australia’s domestic season, where he plays for his native state of Victoria, Short, an all-format player, made three century in first-class and List A cricket.
