Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, recently shared about his tumultuous relationship with his late father, Rocky. In 2019, the wrestler-turned-actor had a heated argument with his father, which led to them not speaking to each other. Unfortunately, Rocky passed away a few weeks later, leaving Dwayne to write and deliver his eulogy.
In an emotional Instagram video on Father’s Day, Dwayne urged his fans to reconcile with their fathers before it’s too late. He emphasized the importance of not having to regret not making amends with one’s father before it’s too late.
Dwayne expressed his regret that he never got to say goodbye to his father and make amends. He empathized with those who also have complicated relationships with their fathers and wish they could have one more chance to reconcile.
He shared his own experience of having a complicated relationship with his father and how they had the biggest fight of their lives during Christmas 2019. Unfortunately, three weeks later, his father passed away, leaving Dwayne with the regret of not being able to reconcile with him.
As the star of the upcoming movie Jungle Cruise, Dwayne encouraged his fans to make an effort to reconcile with their fathers if they have the opportunity to do so.
Dwayne Johnson has opened up about his “complicated”, “tough love” relationship with his late father Rocky, who passed away a few weeks after a heated argument with the wrestler-turned-actor in 2019, when the two were not on talking terms with each other.
“Do your best to reconcile because the alternative is something could happen and all of a sudden you’re writing the eulogy for your dad’s funeral, like I found myself. I woke up one day and he was gone, and I had to write that eulogy and deliver it. I don’t want that for you guys,” an emotional Johnson said in an Instagram video he shared on Father’s Day.
“I wish he was here one more time so I can say, ‘Hey, I love you, happy Father’s Day, thank you for raising me with the capacity you did have, even though at times it was complicated and at times we fought.’ But we don’t have that privilege,” the actor added, empathising with all the men who don’t have their fathers around on Father’s Day.
“There’s a lot of guys out there, like me, who had a tough love, complicated relationship with our fathers. I had that with my old man, I know a lot of you guys did as well. So it’s tricky, because they’re not here now and we wish they were,” Johnson said in the video.
“I got in the biggest fight with my old man during Christmas 2019, the biggest fight I ever got in with him in my life, his as well with me. We fought. We weren’t talking, or I wasn’t talking, and three weeks later he dropped dead, and that was it. I never had a chance to say goodbye and I never even had a chance to reconcile what we were going through. I got goosebumps right now,” the 51-year-old said.
The Jungle Cruise actor encouraged fans who had complicated relationships with their fathers to make an effort to reconcile and mend their differences. “If you have an opportunity, if your old man is around and you do have a shot to reconcile it.”
