Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani | Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani trailer: Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh switch families to give their love a chance

Alia Bhatt’s Rani Chatterjee and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Randhawa – two individuals from different cultural backgrounds – decide to exchange families in order to strengthen their chances of an inter-caste marriage in the trailer of “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani” released by Dharma Productions on Tuesday.

The three-minute-21-second trailer begins by showcasing the budding romance between the two opposites – Rani, a Bengali journalist, and Rocky, a carefree Punjabi hunk.

Rocky and Rani plan to get married, but not without the approval of their vastly different families. Rani belongs to the Chatterjee clan, consisting of her father (Tota Roy Chowdhury), mother (Churni Ganguly), and grandmother (Shabana Azmi). On the other hand, Rocky hails from a traditional Punjabi family, the Randhawas, which includes his parents and grandparents, portrayed by a soft-spoken Dharmendra and an opinionated and strong Jaya Bachchan.

The couple decides to switch places for three months in order to live with each other’s parents. This results in several humorous moments, including one where Rocky mistakes Rabindranath Tagore as Alia’s grandfather and claims that he stopped voting since Shamita (Shetty) is no longer a part of “Bigg Boss.”

Meanwhile, Alia struggles to adapt to the traditions of the Randhawa household, while Jaya’s character, Dhanalakshmi, plots against the couple. Alia’s modern Bengali woman look is impressive, but it doesn’t make up for Ranveer’s jokes that often fall flat and the lack of chemistry between the two leads.

The trailer also provides a glimpse of the grand and visually stunning sets, reminiscent of Abhishek Verman’s “Kalank” (2019), as well as a few other songs featured in the film. While it remains unclear whether the wedding actually takes place between the two characters, it is evident that they eventually reconcile after breaking up, possibly after the song “Tum Kya Mile,” where Rani imagines a romantic encounter with Rocky amidst the snow-capped mountains of Kashmir.

“Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” marks Karan Johar’s return as a director after a seven-year hiatus. Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra will also be making their comeback on the silver screen after six and seven years, respectively. This romantic drama is scheduled for release on July 28th of this year.

Rocky and Rani decide to get married but not without the permission of their drastically different families. The switcheroo results in a bunch of funny moments including one where Rocky mistakes Rabindranath Tagore as Alia’s grandfather and claims that he has stopped voting since Shamita (Shetty) isn’t a part of Bigg Boss anymore.

Alia, on the other hand, struggles to keep up with the traditions of the Randhawa household while Jaya’s Dhanalakshmi plots against the love birds. Alia’s quintessential modern Bengali woman look is a winner. However, it doesn’t make up for Ranveer’s jokes that fall flat more often than not and the missing chemistry between the two leads.

The trailer also gives a look into the massive and spectacular sets which are reminiscent of Abhishek Verman’s Kalank (2019) along with the few other songs coming our way. While it isn’t clear whether the wedding actually happens between the two, what is clear is that they eventually makeup after breaking up in the film — perhaps right after the song Tum Kya Mile where Rani imagines romancing with Rocky amidst the snow-capped mountains of Kashmir.

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani marks the return of Karan as a director after seven years. Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra will also be seen making their comeback on the silver screen after six and seven years, respectively. The romantic drama is slated for a July 28 release this year.
