The fourth installment of the popular Netflix series, Sex Education, will mark the end of the show. Creator Laurie Nunn shared the news in an heartfelt letter addressed to the fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nunn explained that as they were working on the final season, they realized that it was the perfect time to conclude the series. The highly anticipated season will premiere on September 21.

In her letter, Laurie Nunn reflected on the journey of the show, highlighting the early days of the writers room in 2017. She mentioned how they spent a month in a cramped office above a sex shop, discussing the experiences of going through puberty.

The purpose behind creating Sex Education, as Nunn explained, was to provide comfort and support to teenagers and even to herself. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming positive response the show has received. However, she also conveyed the bittersweet feeling of announcing that the fourth season would be the final one. Nunn emphasized that this decision was not an easy one, but as they developed the themes and stories for the new season, it became evident that it was the right time to bid farewell.

Expressing pride in the show, Nunn acknowledged the incredible efforts of the talented writers, cast, and crew who poured their hearts into every episode. She assured fans that the final season has been crafted with utmost dedication and is eagerly anticipated to be shared with the audience.

The final season of Sex Education will see the return of beloved cast members including Asa Butterfield (Otis), Gillian Anderson (Jean), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Connor Swindells (Adam), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), Mimi Keene (Ruby), George Robinson (Isaac), Chinenye Ezeudu (Vivienne), Dua Saleh (Cal), Alistair Petrie (Michael), Samantha Spiro (Maureen), Jim Howick (Colin), Rakhee Thakrar (Emily), and Daniel Ings.

Joining the returning cast members are previously announced actors such as Emmy-winning star Dan Levy from Schitt’s Creek, Thaddea Graham from Doctor Who, Lisa McGrillis from Somewhere Boy, Marie Reuther from Kamikaze, Jodie Turner-Smith from Tron: Ares and The Acolyte, Eshaan Akbar, as well as newcomers Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, Reda Elazouar, Bella Maclean, and Imani Yahshua.

Sex Education season 4 will be available for streaming on Netflix starting September 21.

Sex Education season 4 marks the end of the Netflix series. In an emotional letter to fans, creator Laurie Nunn announced the end of the series. As they were writing it, she said, “it became clear that this was the right time to graduate,” per The Hollywood Reporter. The final season will debut Sept. 21.

Laurie Nunn wrote in her letter about the closure of the show: “A lot has happened since our first writers room in 2017, when we spent a month in a cramped office above a sex shop, talking about what it felt like to go through puberty.”

Nunn went on to explain why she created the show, to help teenagers and ourselves feel a little less alone. She appreciated the overwhelming approval of the show. “Writing this feels bittersweet, as we’ve decided the fourth season will also be the final instalment of our show. This was not an easy decision to make, but as the themes and stories of the new season crystallised, it became clear that this was the right time to graduate,” she wrote.

“We are incredibly proud of Sex Education and feel indebted to our brilliant writers, cast and crew who put so much heart into making every episode. They have worked tirelessly to bring you this final season, and we can’t wait to share it with you,” she concluded.

Asa Butterfield (Otis), Gillian Anderson (Jean), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Connor Swindells (Adam), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), Mimi Keene (Ruby), George Robinson (Isaac), Chinenye Ezeudu (Vivienne), Dua Saleh (Cal), Alistair Petrie (Michael), Samantha Spiro (Maureen), Jim Howick (Colin), Rakhee Thakrar (Emily) and Daniel Ings will all return for the final season.
