Starfield Orange Juice Comes With a Debuff

Players of the highly-anticipated Bethesda title, Starfield, will have to contend with an unexpected debuff from one of the game’s consumable items – orange juice. The game’s developers have confirmed that items like food and drinks will provide buffs and debuffs, in line with previous Bethesda titles like Skyrim and Fallout 4. However, the orange juice in Starfield will provide players with an oxygen boost, while simultaneously reducing their health for a longer period.

During the recent Starfield Direct event, Bethesda revealed more details about the game’s features, including starship building, a conversation system, and combat. The Reddit user, Protato20, shared an image from the game’s menu that showcased the “orange juice of transcendence.” The drink offers a +8 O2 boost for five minutes, but players will experience a health reduction of one point per second for a minute. However, the buff lasts much longer than the debuff, providing an interesting gameplay element for players to consider.

Bethesda games have a history of providing players with consumable items that offer health, buffs, and resistances, as well as debuffs. As such, it is possible that other consumables in Starfield will pair well with the orange juice of transcendence. The drink itself weighs 0.3 in mass and has a value of 75 at vendors. Interestingly, the text in the game suggests that it is the “most refreshing” juice in the Settled Systems, providing a potential lore detail for players.

Given that Starfield is set in space, the oxygen boost from the orange juice of transcendence may prove more beneficial than standard health points. However, players will need to consider the debuff and whether it is worth pairing the drink with other consumables or skills. It is currently unclear if the orange juice of transcendence is worth its value, as the Starfield Direct did not delve into the importance of oxygen usage versus health.

Starfield will be released on September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

The orange juice in Starfield will debuff a player’s health while raising the Oxygen stat for a longer duration. Since more details about Starfield were confirmed during the Starfield Direct on June 11, players have more of an idea of the upcoming Bethesda title, including a strange aspect of the orange juice.

With Starfield set to release on September 6, Todd Howard and Bethesda have revealed aspects of the space-faring game like starship building, a conversation system, and combat. Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 have included various consumable items that provide health, buffs, and resistances, in addition to having their own debuffs like one that fans have spotted in Starfield. Starfield will apparently follow this concept of adding buffs and debuffs to food and drinks, but items like orange juice may not do what players could expect.

Reddit user Protato20 recently shared an image from what appears to be a Starfield menu that gives players a glimpse at one of the in-game consumables and what it does. The screenshot highlights the “orange juice of transcendence” which may be a special version of the Starfield drink as it has multiple effects in addition to the specific name. While the orange juice of transcendence offers +8 O2 for five minutes, it will reduce a player’s health per second by one point for a minute, leaving the buff lasting much longer than the debuff.

Because past consumables in Bethesda games like Fallout 4 RadAway and various potions of Skyrim have provided players with buffs, it’s likely that other consumables could pair with the orange juice. Beyond the benefits and potential drawbacks of using this Starfield consumable item, it weighs 0.3 in mass and has a value of 75 at the vendors that will purchase things from players. Bethesda also offers a potential lore detail with this orange juice, with text suggesting that it’s the “most refreshing” juice in the Settled Systems. Given that Starfield is a space-based Bethesda RPG, the special oxygen boost from this orange juice may end up being more beneficial than standard health points.

While the orange juice of transcendence has a debuff for Starfield health points, it may be worth it for the oxygen increase when paired with other consumables or skills that could offset the losses. Given that the Starfield Direct didn’t delve into oxygen usage versus the importance of health, it’s currently unclear if this orange juice is worthy of its value.

Starfield releases for PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 6.
