Supernatural Creator Has Emotional Response To Fans Who Say Show “Got Them Through Tough Times”

Following the cancellation of The Winchesters, the creator of Supernatural, Eric Kripke, has a heartfelt message for fans who miss the original series. The show had a 15-year run, and the adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester were a central part of WB and CW’s programming. After the series ended in 2020, a prequel series called The Winchesters was released, but it was ultimately set in a different universe.

Kripke has never been shy about his respect for the loyal fans of Supernatural, and he continues to show it even after the cancellation of The Winchesters. See his tweet below:

Kripke left the show in 2005 but still remained a vital part of the series. He went on to become a showrunner for The Boys, but his love for Supernatural and its fans remains strong.

The CW has recently shifted away from scripted television in search of a new audience and lower costs, which poses a significant threat to the survival of Supernatural and The Winchesters. Although Supernatural star Misha Collins (Castiel) remains optimistic, the future of the series seems uncertain after The Winchesters failed to secure a new home.

Supernatural has made several attempts at spin-offs in the past, but unfortunately, none of them made it to air. Bloodlines focused on hunter-monster relationships in Chicago, while Supernatural: Wayward Sisters would have followed a group of sisters fighting the world’s monsters. The failure of these concepts to gain traction is another negative sign for the Supernatural universe.

The core of Supernatural has always been the relationship between Sam, Dean, and their found family. Their emotional bonds were more critical to the series than any of the demons or killers they encountered. Centering any spinoff around characters other than Sam, Dean, and arguably Castiel would be challenging due to this emotional depth. If Supernatural is to continue in some form, it will need to stay true to the characters that made the show successful in the first place.

In the hopes of lowering costs and finding a new target audience, The CW has been moving away from scripted television. For Supernatural and The Winchestersthat has been a serious threat to its continued survival. While Supernatural star Misha Collins (Castiel) remains hopeful, the future seems fraught for the series after The Winchesters failed to find a new home.

Supernatural has had multiple attempts at spin-offs in the past. While Bloodlines followed hunter-monster relations in Chicago, Supernatural: Wayward Sisters would have followed a group of sisters as they fought the world’s monsters. Unfortunately, neither series ever made it to air, which is another negative sign for Supernatural. Too many concepts have failed to gain traction for the Supernatural universe to succeed.

The problem with trying spinoffs for Supernatural is that the heart of the show was always the relationship between Sam, Dean, and their found family. Their emotional bonds were more central to the series than any of the demons or killers they met along the way. Trying to center any spinoff around characters who aren’t Sam, Dean, and arguably Castiel is always going to be a challenge precisely because of that. If Supernatural is ever to continue in some fashion, it will likely need to stay true to the characters that kept the show successful in the first place.
