Tears of the Kingdom Player Recreates Opening Sequence From Breath

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a long-time fan of the Zelda series has recreated the iconic opening sequence of Breath of the Wild. The game is set in a world that has drastically changed following the Upheaval, but players can still explore an iconic location from Link’s previous adventure.

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can explore areas they last visited in Breath of the Wild, discover new secrets, and search the sky islands above Hyrule. The Upheaval scattered debris across the entire nation of Hyrule, destroying villages and causing monsters to migrate to areas closer to Central Hyrule. The event also created chasms that lead to the Depths, an ancient and blighted land beneath Hyrule. Despite the far-reaching and lasting effects of the Upheaval, several locations were left largely intact, including Kakariko Village and Rito Village.

MrAngero, a player of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, has recreated the opening sequence of Breath of the Wild after revisiting the Great Plateau. The cave where Link first awakened and re-entered Hyrule still exists in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and MrAngero can be seen walking forward to the edge of the plateau’s cliff. In Breath of the Wild, the game’s title appears as Link views Hyrule for the first time in over a hundred years from the Great Plateau. The music and logo from Breath of the Wild’s opening sequence are not available in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so MrAngero edited in these elements to recreate the iconic scene in the game.

In MrAngero’s recreation, President Hudson replaces the Old Man from Breath of the Wild. MrAngero appears to have transported the character from Tarrey Town in Akkala to the Great Plateau, but did not share the exact methods used to move the character. Players, however, can transport characters and Koroks by building vehicles and flying machines using the Ultrahand ability.

Although Hyrule Castle and the surrounding areas have changed in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, MrAngero has faithfully recaptured Breath of the Wild’s impressive opening with a more powerful and experienced Link. Both openings emphasize a sense of exploration and freedom, and MrAngero’s recreated opening retains those qualities by highlighting Central Hyrule, a vast open field with smaller areas and secrets to discover.

Players of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will likely continue to share their discoveries and creations within the game’s vast world. Link’s assortment of abilities allows players to use nearby materials to build unique contraptions ranging from a Zelda: Spirit Tracks-inspired train to a powerful attack helicopter.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
