The 2023 VMAs: All the best-dressed celebrities
The MTV VMAs showcased not only the vibrant music but also the fashion statements of the attendees. The red carpet at the 2023 event held at New Jersey’s Prudential Center was filled with daring and dazzling outfits. Let’s take a look at the best-dressed stars from this year’s Video Music Awards.
Taylor Swift made a striking entrance, fueling speculation about the release date of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version).” The artist, who received the most nominations, opted for an edgier look than usual. She wore an asymmetrical black gown from Atelier Versace adorned with the luxury label’s iconic gold Medusa hardware. Sparkling chains and diamonds from Anita Ko, Maria Tash, and Joseph Saidian and Sons added to the overall glamorous appeal.
Selena Gomez stole the show with her stunning appearance. The “Single Soon” singer looked gorgeous in a hand-beaded scarlet halter gown by Oscar de la Renta. The skirt of the gown was delicately formed from floral tendrils. Beautiful butterfly earrings and diamonds from Giardini Segreti completed her secret garden-worthy style.
Olivia Rodrigo, known for her mix of punk and preppy fashion, opted for a simple and streamlined silhouette on the red carpet. She wore a sleek tank dress from Ludovic de Saint Sernin, adorned with Swarovski crystals. Rodrigo kept her accessories and beauty look minimal to let the dress shine.
Cardi B showed off her unique style in a Dilara Findikoglu gown inspired by armor. The gown was crafted from thousands of hair clips, which must have been quite heavy! She completed the look with matching cuffs, and her husband, Offset, joined in the hair clip theme.
Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes made a wonderful pair on the red carpet. Stokes, star of “Outer Banks,” wore a red look from Michael Kors, while Ballerini, the “Penthouse” singer, opted for a low-cut neckline in a Mônot gown. Their coordinated outfits showed their love for each other.
Megan Thee Stallion exuded both sexiness and sophistication in her strapless corset gown by Brandon Blackwood. She accessorized with an impressive 129 carats of Jacob & Co. jewelry.
Shakira, the recipient of the Video Vanguard Award, shone in a backless chainmail creation by Atelier Versace. The gown hugged her curves perfectly. She brought her sons Milan and Sasha as her dates, and both boys sported baroque-print Versace tracksuits.
Saweetie looked stunning in a hot-off-the-runway dress from Area. Her fashion-forward look was reminiscent of Wilma Flintstone, but with a modern twist.
Italian rockers Måneskin, whose revealing ensembles were censored during last year’s broadcast, opted for more covered-up outfits this time. They chose edgy outfits from Rick Owens, which still made a statement on the red carpet.
Stephen Sanchez stood out as the best-dressed man at the VMAs. The “Until I Found You” singer looked dapper in a powder blue Gucci bow blouse and carried a bamboo-handled Diana bag.
The TikTok-famous D’Amelio sisters, Charli and Dixie, looked elegant and sophisticated in their perfectly tailored strapless dresses. Charli wore a bow-topped midi dress by ShuShu/Tong, while Dixie dazzled in a sculptural column dress by Maticevski.

In a move seemingly tailor-made — make that Taylor-made — to get Swifties speculating about a release date for “Reputation (Taylor’s Version),” this year’s most-nominated artist went edgier than usual for the evening, hitting the pink carpet in an asymmetrical black Atelier Versace gown studded with the luxury label’s iconic gold Medusa hardware.
A sprinkling of sparkling chains and diamonds from Anita Ko, Maria Tash and Joseph Saidian and Sons upped the glam factor further.

This might be the best the “Single Soon” singer’s ever looked. Gomez was gorgeous in this hand-beaded scarlet halter gown from Oscar de la Renta, which featured a skirt formed from delicate floral tendrils.

The “Vampire” songstress tends to mix punk-inspired pieces with preppy ones in her everyday life — but when it comes to the red carpet, we think she looks her absolute best in simple, streamlined silhouettes like this one.
Rodrigo’s sleek, Swarovski crystal-encrusted tank dress from Ludovic de Saint Sernin hit all the right notes, and the star smartly kept her accessories and beauty look minimal so as not to complete with all that shine.
