Renowned Bollywood actress Kajol is all set to make her debut on OTT in a full-length format with Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming web series “The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha,” in which she will portray the character of Noyonika Sengupta. The Hindi version of the popular American series “The Good Wife,” The Trial follows the story of a lawyer who returns to her profession to save her husband from a sex scandal. When asked about the show and why she chose to play the role of Noyonika, Kajol said, “I am drawn to complex characters with multiple layers, and Noyonika’s character spoke to me on a personal level. I felt a strong sense of protectiveness towards her, which reinforced my decision to choose ‘The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka’ as my first foray into the world of long-format storytelling on Disney+ Hotstar.”

Kajol is confident that The Trial will evoke a range of emotions in viewers, as she states, “Suparn Varma has created a world where the characters’ vulnerabilities intersect with life’s harsh realities. Audiences will empathize with Noyonika as she confronts difficult choices, just as I did.”

Talking about the series and why he chose to play this role, Kajol shared, “The complexities are what define a character to me, and the layers surrounding Noyonika are what spoke to me when this role first came over. Noyonika felt personal; I instantly felt protective about her, and that reaffirmed my faith in choosing The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka on Disney+ Hotstar to be my first step into the long format.

Kajol believes that The Trial will make the audience feel for the characters, as she states, “Suparn Varma has built a world where the vulnerability of characters meets the cruel situations posed by life. The audience will feel for and be one with Noyonika as she makes difficult choices, because I did.”
