Why Audiences Can’t Wait to See the Upcoming R-Rated Adaptation

DC has been a prominent name in the animation industry for several years. Since the release of the first animated film, Superman: Doomsday, in 2007, DC has evolved to the point where animated films are preferred over live-action ones. The upcoming Justice League: Warworld, the tenth entry in the Tomorrowverse, is an R-rated DC animated film with a multiverse twist. The film ties stories together until the conclusion to prepare for the ultimate showdown.

The Justice League: Warworld trailer made it evident that it will feature the DC Trinity consisting of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Instead of fighting an imminent threat that menaces the Earth, they are stranded in different worlds and forced to battle the foes who terrorize their individual locations. Batman is depicted in a different version of Starkaris, a place explained in the comics to be forgotten by time, while Wonder Woman finds herself in the Wild West, giving her a badass Cowgirl story. Superman was stranded in a black-and-white world overrun by the shape-shifting race of creatures known as White Martians. While it appears that each of them is in a distinct world, they are all on the same planet—Mongul’s Warworld.

The DC Animated Universe has a long history of R-rated films, driven by violence and action. Justice League: Warworld is no exception, and it is rated R for its bloody violence. The DC Animated franchise is stepping up its game thanks to a steady stream of fresh comic book adaptations and adult-oriented fare.

The DC’s Trinity will be stranded in Mongul’s Warworld, and Mongul is often referred to as the “Lord of Warworld.” He is seen as an untouchable character with powers that even Superman couldn’t match. He has fought practically every major superhero in the comics, including the Flash, Green Lantern, and Supergirl, and has even trapped stronger heroes like Aquaman, Green Arrow, Batman, and Hal Jordan with his weapon Black Mercy. Due to his absolute dominance over his home planet, no one can equal his prowess there.

Justice League: Warworld is the first animated Justice League film in the new Tomorrowverse era. Jeff Wamester, who also directed Legion of Super-Heroes, returns to direct Justice League: Warworld, with the script by Jeremy Adams, Josie Campbell, and Ernie Altbacker. The main cast features Jensen Ackles as Batman, Stana Katic as Wonder Woman, and Darren Criss as Superman. Justice League: Warworld will be available digitally and on Blu-ray from July 25.

DC has been well-known for producing animated films for many years, ever since the first one, Superman: Doomsdaywas released in 2007, and it has evolved to the point where many people prefer animated films to the current live-action ones. Furthermore, it has always been curious to explore different comic themes in each movie, and the next Justice League adaptation, which is R-rated for viewers, is no exception.

Justice League: Warworldthe tenth entry in the Tomorrowverse, is an upcoming DC animated film. The film authentically sees a multiverse twist without giving the audience any idea of what’s going on, and it ties the stories together until the conclusion to prepare for the ultimate showdown. That being said, while it’s possible that Justice League: Warworld will be just another DC animated feature that gets people talking for a while, various aspects might be unique and exciting for fans to see.

While Batman is depicted in a different version of Starkaris, a place explained in the comics to be forgotten by time, Wonder Woman finds herself in the Wild West, giving her a badass Cowgirl story. The most intriguing would be Superman, who was stranded in a black-and-white world overrun by the shape-shifting race of creatures known as White Martians.

While it appears that each of them is in a distinct world, we learn at the end of the trailer that they are all on the same planet—Mongul’s Warworld. It could imply that Mongul’s planet contains pocket worlds, and according to DC Comics, Mongul’s mind serves as a combat station that governs the entire planet. It will be intriguing to see how the DC’s Trinity confronts the forces of Warworld and triumphs together.

R-Rating for Its Bloody Violence

The DC Animated Universe has a long history of R-rated films, beginning with Batman: The Killing Joke and continuing with Justice League Dark, Batman: Gotham by Gaslightand many others, so this is hardly the first of its kind. However, given how each film was driven by violence and action, it makes sense for DC to continue providing fans with more of what they crave.

While James Gunn has different plans for the live-action DCU, the animated franchise is also stepping up its game thanks to a steady stream of fresh comic book adaptations and adult-oriented fare.

Will We See the Brutal Mongul As the Antagonist

As previously stated, the DC’s Trinity will be stranded in Mongul’s Warworld, but what makes him so terrifying that fans should be excited to see him in the film? Apparently, during the Bronze Age of comics, Mongul was seen as an untouchable character with powers that even Superman couldn’t match.

Furthermore, he has fought practically every major superhero in the comicsincluding the Flash, Green Lantern, and Supergirl, and has even trapped stronger heroes like Aquaman, Green Arrow, Batman, and Hal Jordan with his weapon Black Mercy.

Due to his absolute dominance over his home planet, Mongul is often referred to as the “Lord of Warworld,” and no one can equal his prowess there. However, knowing that he would face the DC’s Trinity in the upcoming film, that could change, albeit it will not be an easy battle to win.

While DC has released several animated films over the yearsit also had a reboot in 2013 with Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradoxwhich established a movie continuity for a few more years. However, Justice League: Apokolips War in 2020 reset the animated universe once more, spawning the “Tomorrowverse” that began the same year with Superman: The Man of Tomorrow.

Following that, it saw the release of Justice Society: World War II, Batman: The Long Halloween Parts One and Two, Green Lantern: Beware My Power, Legion of Super-Heroes, and a few other short and extended edition films. Given that Justice League films often do not conclude with a single installment, Justice League: Warworld will be the first animated Justice League film in the new Tomorrowverse era. It should be noted, however, that it has not been confirmed that it would be a sequel to the DC Animated Universe, which included multiple films from 2013 to 2020, as there were no crossovers between them.

Jeff Wamester, who also directed Legion of Super-Heroesreturns to direct Justice League: Warworld, with the script by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural), Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), and Ernie Altbacker (Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War). The main cast features Jensen Ackles as Batman, Stana Katic as Wonder Woman, and Darren Criss as Superman.

Justice League: Warworld will be available digitally and on Blu-ray from July 25.
