Why Cyberpunk 2 Won’t Have A Disastrous Launch Like Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red’s upcoming dystopian RPG, Cyberpunk 2, has already shown promise during its early stages of development. In contrast to its predecessor, Cyberpunk 2077, which faced a rocky launch, CD Projekt Red has taken measures to ensure that Cyberpunk 2’s launch will be much smoother.

While Cyberpunk 2 has yet to enter development, small updates from the Polish developer have provided insight into the game’s early stages. Cyberpunk 2 will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, which is bound to be less buggy than CD Projekt Red’s in-house REDengine, and should even help with the studio’s recruitment efforts.

Players eagerly awaiting Cyberpunk 2 will have something to keep them sated until its release with the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. The DLC will delve deeper into V and Johnny’s story, as well as feature new and exciting characters such as a mysterious Netrunner named Songbird and FIA agent Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba.

CD Projekt Red has also learned from its mistakes during the development of Cyberpunk 2077, taking concrete measures to prevent overworking game developers. With a healthier workplace culture and complete support from the board of directors, CD Projekt Red is on track for a successful launch of Cyberpunk 2 and to regain its footing in the industry at large.

Overall, Cyberpunk 2 looks to be a promising RPG that builds upon the foundation laid by Cyberpunk 2077. With a more stable engine, new gameplay systems, and a healthier workplace culture, CD Projekt Red is poised to deliver a successful game that fans will love.

Cyberpunk 2 is still far away, but it already looks more promising than its predecessor, Cyberpunk 2077. The sequel to CD Projekt Red’s dystopian RPG – which has been codenamed Project Orion – was announced in 2022, and it has yet to even enter development. However, small updates from the Polish developer have provided insight into Cyberpunk 2‘s early stages, and they already indicate a smooth launch (or at least one not nearly as rocky as Cyberpunk 2077‘s).

Fortunately, players will have something to keep them sated until then. Cyberpunk 2077‘s Phantom Liberty DLC releases on September 26, 2023, and it will delve even deeper into V and Johnny’s story in the corporate-controlled Night City. Alongside overhauls to gameplay systems like police, cyberware, and even melee animations, the expansion will also feature new and exciting characters, like a mysterious Netrunner named Songbird in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Libertyand FIA agent Solomon Reed, who is played by English actor Idris Elba. As thrilling as the contents of Phantom Liberty are, though, Cyberpunk 2 already seems to be just as good – if not better.

Cyberpunk 2 Will Use Unreal Engine 5

The first indicator of a successful launch comes from the mere fact that Cyberpunk 2 will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. For some time, CD Projekt Red has been using their own in-house REDengine; it did the trick for a while, but titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and even The Witcher 3 have displayed a crucial need to move past REDengine and to adopt third-party software. Though Unreal Engine 5 is still quite new, it’s stable and bound to be far less buggy – and it should even help with CDPR’s recruitment, since more developers will have experience with Epic Games’ UE5 than REDengine, of course.

CD Projekt Red Has Learned From Its Mistakes

There are many ways in which Phantom Liberty could set up Cyberpunk 2but internally at CD Projekt Red, it seems like Project Orion is already being set up for success behind the scenes. In an interview with Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Phantom Liberty‘s director Gabe Amatangelo describes that the studio as a whole is in a much better place than it was during the development of Cyberpunk 2077. There are concrete measures set in place to prevent “crunch” (or the continual overworking of game developers), such as “a system that alerts management if someone is working for prolonged periods of time.”

Not only that, but Amatangelo also states that CD Projekt Red’s entire board of directors have expressed “humility and willingness to change,” giving the studio the liberty to take as much time and resources as they need in order to avoid a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077‘s mistakes. With a seemingly much healthier workplace culture, complete support from the board of directors, and even a more stable engine to develop the game with, CD Projekt Red looks to be on track for a successful launch of Cyberpunk 2 – and to regain its footing in the industry at large.
